"All I'm saying is there's no need for pretense tonight," Gigi says.
"And yet every guest room except for one is in the middle of redecorating," I say as I descend the curved staircase that leads to the second floor.
I'd heard what she said about it being just the three of us and followed the sound of their conversation to the main living room.
My sister and Beatrice are curled up on opposite couches in front of the fireplace.
I like the picture they make. These two women and I'm surprised by how right it feels to have that thought. It doesn't scare me or surprise me.
Seeing them talking, and liking the fact that they get along, feels like a piece of a puzzle I hadn't realized sat before me.
