Intense pain radiated from behind Carissa's eyes, across to her temples, and around to the back of her head. She whimpered and adjusted her position, but the pain only increased, the throbbing sharp and stabbing. 


"Hey, easy." Bradley stood next to her bed, his hands poised to help her sit up. 


Suddenly, despite the agony in her head, she was wide awake. "Bradley. You're here."


"I told you I wasn't leaving you here alone tonight," he said, his smile only mildly teasing. 


"Yeah, but then you got arrested for punching Danny in the face." She forced herself upright, and the ache in her head eased a little. "What happened?" She narrowed her eyes, thankful the room was mostly dark. "Apparently, he hit you back."


Bradley chuckled. "Yeah, he got in a few good hits, but it was worth it to get in a few of my own. He deserved more than just a broken nose." 


Carissa groaned and moved over, making room for Bradley on the bed. "What time is it anyway?"
