Tiamat half transformed and sprouted wings on his back so that he could catch up to the hydra.

He raised his sword and aimed for the last head but this time the hydra was ready and managed to dodge.

"So, you're the half dragon that has been creating a stir around these parts," the monster sneered.

Now that it was nearing the pond again it felt a bit braver and set a trap for Tiamat.

Half dragon? Fiona was even more confused about Tiamat's origins now.

When he had saved her from the ocean, he had been in full dragon form, but she had yet to see him retake his original form.

Did being a half dragon mean that there were limitations to his true form.

"Cease you're prattling," was Tiamat's sharp response.

As he was aiming for the monster's head again the hydra secretly flicked its tail around.

That it had deliberately kept hidden unfurled between its thousand legs.

It was very thin and spiky at the very end.

The tail also had a poisonous hook where it would be used to impale the more stubborn of the hydra's victims and drag them along with it to the bottom of the pond.

The hydra intended to do just that with the half dragon. With such a rare beast the hydra could feed upon Tiamat's body for days until it grew back its five heads.

With Tiamat's body digested it could become even more powerful than before and it chuckled to itself with glee like a spider that lured an unsuspecting fly into its web.

"Here's the talisman, you want it to come and get me," she said, flashing her hand.

Tiamat started to laugh hysterically at the creature's stupidity, leaving its back defenseless as it veered towards the talisman.

"What in blazes are you doing, get to safety woman," there would be plenty of time to thank her later once she was out of harm's way.

He gave a yell of fury then lunged himself at the beast climbing and hacking his way until he reached to the top of the monster.

The hydra tried unsuccessfully to shake him off, but he managed to grip the beast with sheer will power.

Tiamat swung his sword in a full arc with one clean swipe and lopped the last of the hydra's head off with a forceful slash.

His rage unleashed he proceeds to hack at the body of the hydra, the black flame seeping out of his body.

It appeared that only Fiona could see the menacing aura as no one else mentioned it.

With the monster still clinging to life his men, once more join in and took over stabbing at the body parts so there was no chance of this monster ever coming back to life.

After that they set fire to the remaining pieces and prayed for the souls of the lost that they would finally be free.

Fiona used herself as bait and was once again unnecessarily risking her life to save his.

She was just too alluring with that glowing ring of power, that Tiamat was all but forgotten as the monster changed course and decided to chase after the ring.

It didn't take long for Tiamat to realize that Fiona saved his life when he saw the unfurled tail that reminded him of a scorpion's tail.

Had the monster not gotten greedy and pierced his chest with that tail it would have been all over for him.

Torn between the want to throttle Fiona or thank her for saving his life he did neither.

Instead he reached for her, threw her over his shoulder like she weighed no more than a bag of rice and walked with her back to the pond out of the line of sight of his men.

She pounded his back, embarrassed at having her fanny tossed in the air for all to see, "put me down I can't believe this is the thanks I get for saving your life."

He nodded at Gritzl, a signal for the men to mind their own business and get back to work.

His cousin understood the unspoken command and began ordering the surviving men around to get the camp back in working order.

Tiamat was tempted to spank that same fanny of hers for being so careless with her life. "I'm thankful but at the same time your actions worry me because it shows you such little regard for your own life."

"I'm not a fool I would have just run back to the cover of the men, but I figured once I distracted the creature you would be able to take it out, and I was right, wasn't I?" she answered proudly.

He gently pulled her off his shoulder and planted her firmly on the ground feet first.

Tiamat could see he was already forgotten as she checked on her sundress before squatting down once more on the banks of the pond.

"You never ceased to amaze me," he sighed.

Fiona's hair had been unbound during the battle with the monster and Tiamat realized she was still semi-nude for all his men to see on display.

When she had been initially attacked by the hydra the clothes Sloan gave her had been destroyed while her sundress was still damp on the nearby rock, so he handed her his tunic.

He watched as she tried to untangle her knotted hair without a comb just her fingers.

Tiamat couldn't believe what she had threatened to do with such lovely hair that reminded him of a cascading waterfall the way it fell in waves down her back.

He leaned over and whispered imperiously, "I won't allow you to cut off your gorgeous hair."

She rolled her eyes in response, what she chose to do with her hair was none of his darn business.

"Having long, thick hair like mine can be a drag, it tangles easily and takes forever to dry."

"Where I'm from a woman's hair is her crowning glory, she washes and oil her scalp regularly and treats it tenderly."

Fiona blushed down to her roots, "it's not a big deal."

Tiamat responded, "Seeing you care for your hair reminded of some of the simple but finer things in life. Besides, it gives me great satisfaction to have you doing something for a change that pleases me. Now that your hair is out of the way, how about caring for mine next?"

Her response to his sass? She playfully splashed the pond water in his face.
