"You know, Gerry," Allen began, his tone more sincere than usual, "I really have to thank you today."
"For what?" said Gerry without glancing over at him.
"If it weren't because of you," Allen continued, "I might not have known how bad Sophia's been twisting everything. I mean, I knew she was manipulative, but I didn't realize she'd gone as far as trying to taint my name. The way she's been twisting what happened between us... It's worse than I thought."
Gerry gave him a confident, almost smug smile as he tossed his shirt into his locker. "Don't mention it," he said casually, brushing it off as if it were nothing. "That's what friends are for—" His voice cut off suddenly with a loud, startled yell. "AHHHH!" Gerry screamed in shock, stumbling backward slightly as he turned to fully face Allen.
