The refining of the ores and steel used made them almost impervious to attacks from rank one, with the exception of people like Derek. The rules did not apply to abnormalities, for they were rare and hard to spot.

Derek hurriedly pulled out his dagger, but the android was faster as it swung its arms back, landing a hit that took Derek to the wall. It was so fast that he couldn't even break the impact by teleporting.

As the battle progressed, Derek got weaker, his wounds got larger, and he lost more blood, but even then, he fought with ferocity. Each stab carried along his will to utterly destroy these machines.

But while Derek made hits, he also received hits that made his bones quake. The force of a punch from a protector made Derek spit out the blood he had refused to leave his body.
