2010 October...
"But what about..." before he could finish his sentence, Savannah cut him off by saying, " Don't worry about my mom, I'll tell her that I'm going there, just take me there, please?"
The driver turned to look at her. After giving it some thought, he finally gave in and decided to drive her there.
The road to the house was a bit rough but the driver managed to take her there.
As soon as they arrived at the house, Savannah couldn't help but stare in awe.
The place she once called home now looked so raged and shattered. The entrance which used to be beautifully decorated with flowers was now tattered and all the beautiful flowers were dried up and dead. The little garden which Amanda always watered and took care of was now dried up and dirty .
Savannah got out of the car still dumbstruck by how her old home looks now.
She carefully put away her umbrella and dropped her hat in the car. Adjusting her coat, she walked slowly to the the house stopping at the entrance.
Memories of her, her mom and her brother living in the house all came flooding in at once. She remembered those days when her brother and her used to run around the house playing in the garden. For a second she, it felt like Adam was there with her, like she could feel his presence.
Savannah opened the door and took a look around the house before finally walking in. The scent of dust and old furniture hung in the air. It felt like the day they moved was just yesterday .
The house looked exactly the way they left it, the same old coach in the living room and the TV.
In a bit of a rush, Savannah went to her mother's old room. The place was messy and dusty so she opened the window .
She brought out an old trunk from under the bed. She used the key she found in the drawer to open the trunk.
She was looking through some old photos when she spotted an old picture of a man that looked oddly familiar.
The photo was of a man wearing a blue t-shirt . He had dark hair and was smiling widely.
Savannah didn't know how but it felt like that picture was taken somewhere in the house. Suddenly, memories of her children started rushing in. She remembered when she was little and how her dad and her always played together in the living room.
Her memories of him were thin but they were strong enough to make her tear up. She never got a chance to grow up with him before his tragic death .
She looked through the trunk before finding another dusty photo. This time it wasn't one of just her dad, it was one of her, her mom, her brother and her dad. They were standing in the park next to a swing.
For some reason, Savannah felt attached to this photo. She kept the photo close to her heart because it reminded her of when her family was happy.
Savannah took both photos and kept them safely in her pocket. She looked at her watch and realized an hour 30 minutes had already gone by.
She quickly closed the trunk and put it under the bed just the way she met it. She went outside and saw the sun had already set.
She went to the car and got inside, " Take me home, and be quick about it". Savannah checked her phone and saw 10 missed calls, her mom was going to be so upset with her .
The driver drove as fast as he could. They arrived at her house but it was already too late.
Savannah stepped out of the car and took her hat and umbrella.
She walked to the front door but got interrupted by someone shout, " Stop there!"
Savannah turned to look were the scream came from and saw her mom seated comfortably in thier front yard. She clenched her fists and stood up angrily.
Savannah walked closer to her mom. She didn't know what to do. She didn't know it would take her so long before she came home, worst of all, she didn't even inform her mom about her whereabouts.
Amanda used her index finger to lift Savannah's chin up.
" Savannah, you left my house, without informing me and had the guts to come back by this time!" Amanda shouted while walking around her.
"I I'm really sorry mom, actually...."
"Actually what? You forgot to call me. What if something bad happened? Would you say sorry then?" Amanda stopped and looked at Savannah which had her head down the whole time.
Savannah didn't say anything, instead just kept her head low.
"Savannah, I know you want to go out but please, inform me before you go anywhere". Amanda said in a lower tone as she sat Savannah down.
" But what if I go t-to the house?" Amanda didn't say anything for a while .
" You won't be going back there, understood". Amanda said partially shouting.
" But I've already been there... today". This time Savannah looked at her mother straight in the eye.
" I said it and I'll say it again. From now henceforth, you won't be going there".
"But...." Before Savannah could finish her sentence, she was cut short by Amanda.
" But nothing. Go to your room". Amanda said and without looking at Savannah sat on her seat and picked up the newspaper.
"You know you'll still have to tell me why you hate that place so much, and that day won't be far". Savannah said as she went inside.
