Special week pt 3

April 1995.....

Amanda decided to prepare fries for them, she brought out a few potatoes from the ones she bought the other day and cut them before turning on the stove.

She stole a glance at her children and wondered what they must be feeling having to spend hours out of their day, waiting for her. If only she had enough money and the luxury of time, then things won't turn out like this .

She fried the potatoes and sprinkled some salt on them before serving them.

" Here you go, now eat your dinner quickly. Remember, tomorrow is a really long day so you have to get up early."

" But mom, why do we have to follow you to work everyday? Why can't we just stay at home?" Adam said while slowly rubbing his eyes.

" Because, it's to dangerous for you and Savannah to be home alone without guidance. Now wake up your sister and the two of you should eat your dinner and get ready for bed".

"But you left us home alone once".Amanda turned to look at Adam who was also staring at her and walked up to him.

" Adam, that was my mistake and I shouldn't have done that, it's just that I've been so busy lately and I haven't had time to do anything. Don't worry, tomorrow you and Savannah should wake up early, I have a surprise for you." Amanda said, kneeling down to match his height.

" Really! What is it?"Adam said with a glow on his face.

"Don't worry, I'll tell you tomorrow. Now eat your dinner, it's getting cold". Amanda said before going back to the kitchen. She sat there for a while trying to relieve her stress. She didn't want to continue taking Adam and Savannah to work with her and she can't leave them at home alone. She then remembered her neighbor Chloe who was just a block away. She called her and asked her if she could take care of Adam and Savannah while she was away and she agreed, finally she could work without stress.

She went to the living room and took all the dirty dishes to the kitchen. She washed them and turned of all the lights before going to check on Adam and Savannah .

The two of them were sleeping peacefully in their room and Amanda couldn't help but watch them while they slept. She stayed there for a while watching the two of them twist and turn on the bunk bed before finally leaving the room.

Amanda went to her own room and lay on her bed before turning off the bedside lamp and going to sleep.

It remained two more days until the special week was over.

Amanda got up from bed and got dressed in her blue blouse and black jeans with black sneakers and packed her hair in a bun.

After getting dressed, Amanda made breakfast which was toast and fried eggs before going to the children's room and waking them up.

Before going to the bakery, Amanda went to her neighbors house to drop off the kids.

Since today was the 3rd day of the special week, Amanda decided to make fruit tart.

Usually, on the last two days, the customers would choose which one of the first 3 desserts the baker's made that they would like to have.

Amanda made her fruit tart and prepared her stand. Not many people were at the store so Amanda sat there waiting patiently for a customer but no one came. The event usually started by 9 am in the morning but it was already past 10 yet only a few people were at the store.

Amanda waited for some time until a guy walked up to her. He stood right in front of her stand but Amanda was to lost in thought to notice.

" umm ma'm can I get a fruit tart?" The man and it brought Amanda back to reality.

" oh good morning, that will be 10 dollars ". Amanda said as she quickly packed the tart in a box and put it in a lyon.

"Thanks".

" You're welcome". Amanda said before siting down.

After the man, a few people came to her stand but they weren't as much as on the first day.

After serving the last customer, Amanda counted the money she gained that day. She jumped in excitement after counting it, she gained 150 dollars!

Amanda cleared up her stand before putting her money in her pocket .

Being the last person to leave the bakery, Amanda turned off the lights and locked the door on her way out.

Amanda rushed to the car and started it. She went to her neighbors house and picked up the kids before heading home.

Surprisingly the kids were excited to go home waiting for the surprise their mother prepared for them.

As soon as they got home, the two of them rushed inside leaving their mother in the car.

" Hey, wait up", their mother called behind them.

Amanda walked into the living room and met Adam and Savannah waiting patiently for her. The place was silent before Adam said.

" Mom can you tell us what the surprise is?" Adam said excitedly.

" Okay fine I'll tell you, but first have your dinner". Amanda said before going to the kitchen.

Amanda smiled knowing she could now afford to bake a cake for Savannah's birthday. She knew that even though it wasn't much, it will still make an impact on them.

Amanda made spaghetti for dinner and served it to them.

" Here's your dinner, eat it and then I'll tell you the surprise ".

The two of them didn't take up to 15 minutes before they finished their dinner and shouted.

" we're done!"

Amanda went to the living room and cleared up the dirty dishes before saying, " Your surprise is that for Savannah's birthday we'll celebrate it together, just the three of us ".
