When Amber stepped out from the limo that took her to the hall, her mouth dropped open in awe. The hall was gigantic. The amount of flowers that decorated it was more than she could count, and Amber knew that somewhere in the city, the shops of several florists were empty.
"Why did Draco use a hall?",she asked Wendy in a whisper. There were so many bodyguards dressed in tux, surrounding her and she didn't want them to hear their conversation.
Wendy knew the reason why. Of course creatures of the night couldn't step into the church. It was forbidden. But she couldn't tell Amber that.
"The church wouldn't have been enough to accommodate the numerous guests present here",she whispered back. Even as she spoke, cars pulled into the parking lot as more guests arrived.
Amber nodded in understanding and ceased her questioning. She began to take deep breaths to steady her nerves, when she heard a familiar voice call out her name.
"Dad!",Amber squealed happily. She threw herself into her father's arms and held on tight.
"Oh my darling",Benjamin Hale whispered and kissed his daughter's hair. He gently released her and stood back to stare at her. "You really are beautiful. Just like your mother"
Amber smiled and tried not to break into tears. "I thought you wouldn't come"
"I couldn't miss this special day",Benjamin said and hooked his daughter's hand in his. "Clarissa would have loved to come, but she had to travel out. Her daughter just had a baby"
"That's so sweet",Amber gushed. "I'm just so happy you're here with me"
"Mrs Birmingham",Wendy called out, softly interrupting father and daughter. "I'm sorry, but it is time"
"Okay",Amber said and smiled at Benjamin. She no longer felt nervous, now that her father was beside her.
The orchestra began the soft opening notes of the bridal song and she walked into the large hall beside her father. She kept her eyes forward as the crowd gasped, awed at the sight of her. Not wanting to look anyone in the eye, she kept her eyes on Draco. And she was blown away by his handsomeness.
Draco was dressed in a mouthwatering silver tux, tailored to fit the broadness of his shoulders and the longness of his legs. The tux fit like a second skin, riding over the hard muscles of his sinful body. The shoes he had on screamed of wealth, up to the diamond cufflinks that winked in the light around him.
It was his face that captivated her. His hair was tied at the nape of his neck, exposing his chiselled jawline and perfect cheekbones. His blue eyes appeared bluer as the lights of the hall cast its warm glow on his face.
He looked so breathtakingly handsome, and Amber found herself gawking at him as she walked down the aisle.
She saw him whisper to Arty, and the muscular bodyguard quietly walked away. When Draco smiled at her, her heart did a summersault and a blush spread over her cheeks.
She had never seen someone as captivating and mesmerizing as Draco.
Unaware of the looks his daughter was sharing with Draco, Benjamin stopped at the bottom of the stairs that led to where Draco stood waiting.
He kissed Amber on the cheek and whispered to her.
"Draco will protect you and keep you safe"
Amber didn't have the chance to ask him what he meant because he turned abruptly and disappeared into the crowd.
Before she knew it, she was standing beside Draco and she gave her bouquet to Wendy.
Draco's cold hands closed over hers as a man appeared before them and began to speak to the crowd. He didn't look like a normal priest, but that was the least of Amber's concern.
Why did her father say those words to her, she wondered. What did he mean?
Draco noticed the frown on her face and he applied gentle pressure on her fingers so he could get her attention.
"What are you thinking about?",he asked softly, his voice low enough for only her ears.
"It was something my father said",Amber whispered back. "He said you will protect me and keep me safe. What did he mean?"
Draco fell silent, his eyes gazing at Amber's exquisite beauty. For Benjamin to say something like that, there was something behind it. And it had something to do with Amber.
The man ordaining the wedding ended his speech and stepped back. The vows were spoken, the diamond rings were exchanged and Amber found herself in Draco's arms as he kissed her deeply.
The crowd cheered when he released her, and just like that, Amber was officially Mrs Birmingham.
A lot of guests came towards them to congratulate and wish them well, while some stayed back, glaring jealously at the couple. It was obvious that they weren't happy with the union.
"Remember Amber",Draco spoke close to her ears. "Be a good wife, and you wouldn't have to see my bad side"
Amber smiled stiffly and turned to him. "Be a good husband, and I wouldn't have to disobey your orders. Or turn rebellious"
Instead of getting annoyed, Draco grinned at her. For once, he overlooked her defiance. But he would put a stop to it once they reached their home.
Suddenly a woman screamed from the crowd, and two loud gunshots split the air. People screamed and went on their knees, holding their ears and wondering what was happening.
Draco's eyes scanned the crowd, searching for the gunmen. He knew things wouldn't just go smoothly. He had enemies, lot of deadly enemies, and the news of his wedding would trigger them.
He gently pushed Amber behind him, using his body to protect her. A dozen bodyguards appeared and surrounded the newly wedded couple, guns held high, ready to fire.
"What's happening?",Amber whispered fearfully. The hall had gone totally quiet.
Draco longed to use his abilities to fish out the enemies responsible for the gunshot. He would end their lives in the blink of an eye. But apart from his kind, there were humans here too. He couldn't let them know about the existence of the bloodsuckers.
The race of the vampires were meant to be kept a secret forever.
In the midst of the quiet chaos, three figures stood up from the crowd and walked towards the front of the aisle.
There were two men and a woman. The woman held a pistol in her hand and she threw it to one of the men behind her.
Then she began to clap.
"Such an emotional occasion, don't you think Draco",she said mockingly as she clapped.
Draco glared at the woman before him, flanked by her loyal bodyguards.
"Velma",he growled out.
"Oh you remember me darling",Velma said cheerfully. She was a beautiful blonde woman and her emerald eyes shifted and rested on Amber. "I see you got a new wife. Does she know the deadly secret you've kept hidden for years?"
Amber frowned and looked up at Draco. Deadly secret? What was this woman talking about?
"Did you think I would sit back and watch you marry another woman after you dumped me?",Velma continued and her voice hardened. "If I can't have you Draco, then no one else will. And I will spill all the dark secrets that shrouds your bloody life. Let's see if your new bride will still stay by your side when she finds out the kind of man you are"
Draco's eyes flickered dangerously. He was losing it.
Before anyone could say anything, Velma whipped out another pistol from her purse and pointed it Draco.
People screamed and covered their head in fright.
"I know you can't die Draco",Velma continued, enjoying the power she had and the fear in Draco's eyes. "You're fucking immortal. So I'll just kill your new bride"
She shifted the gun to the side, pointing it at Amber who was peeking out from Draco's side.
Draco moved instantly, racing towards her to grab the gun.
He acted late.
Velma squeezed the trigger and a loud shot was heard.
Screams sounded again and Amber closed her eyes, waiting for the excruciating pain to hit her.
