Chapter 17. Death Risk... Above average.

Eva arrived at the hotel shortly after. She signed whatever paper Asher gave her and sent the transfer of money the next second. That tired guy seemed to be pretty happy with his huge commission.

However, Eva was left with not a lot again. Fortunately, she had a big money bag for that.

[Sunday: Send me another five million.]

[Xeros: When are you going to stop this? Are you not afraid of something happening to you?]

[Sunday: Do what I say and don't comply, little Yael.]

Yael sent the money but he was furious. He put the phone down and looked at his father and brother in the dining room. They both looked proud of their meeting with Lord Tark.

"We've got the presidency, Dad," Yael's brother, Xavier, said with a big grin on his face. "With the support of Lord Tark, the election is ours."

"Yes, but we should not trust him. You know that they are not ordinary people, as long as we give them what they request, everything will be fine. We cannot let the other competitors have the chance to offer better deals."

Yael knew what they meant very well. After all, he had listened to the conversations and had encountered several of those beings at the meeting. The proof was in the little bite marks all over his body. It was sickening. Those two didn't care what those beings did to him. They used him as an exchangeable item, a blood bag.

He got up from the table without an appetite.

"Where are you going, Yael?" his brother interrupted him. "You know you can't get out of the house until the inspections are done."

"I don't understand what that stupid inspection has to do with me," he said, turning around.

"Of course, it has to do with you, little brother. If they see you hanging around with those criminal and stupid friends of yours, it won't go well for Dad's campaign. So, you better go lock yourself in your room with your little computer games."

Yael clenched his fists and rushed to his room without looking back. He knew that Xavier had someone watching him and if he tried to leave the mansion, the bodyguards would not hesitate to stop him even if that meant punching him.

If he could get rid of all of them if only he had enough power. Even that fucking nobody Eva was threatening him now. When did he fall so low?

He couldn't go on like this, at least he should recover his control over that idiot Eva.

He had posted the job on the BlackTea forum a few hours ago. It was anonymous, only for five low-rank mercenary group accounts. He didn't need more to get rid of that weak woman.

[Xeros: I want photos, videos, I want to see her beg for my forgiveness.]

[Xeros: reward ten million.]

BlackTea processed his request quickly and soon all five groups accepted the job. Whoever arrived first with evidence of the finished work would be the winner of the ten million.

"Okay," he leaned back in his chair, "let the hunt begin."

"The number you've dialed is out of service," Kian listened to the message for the fifth time.

The vein on his forehead was popping angrily. "Find her at her school, I want her here in half an hour."

Emiliano had already sent someone to find Eva after he failed to reach her on the phone. "Miss Reed left school this morning, sir. No one has seen her since. I have already sent our men to look for her."

Kian frowned. He only hoped that Marina couldn't talk with that woman either.

However, for some reason, he knew Marina would make it.

"Eva!" Marina had a video call with Eva at that time.

Eva smiled watching the sweet girl on the other side of her screen. She knew that she shouldn't have deep connections with other human beings, but she couldn't help but be close to some of them. Especially Marina, as according to her memories, that little girl always helped her.

"You look spectacular," Marina continued blinking her eyes with admiration, "you are gorgeous."

Eva smiled again. Unfortunately, she was weak to compliments too. "You look good too."

"Mmm..."

"What's up?"

"It's just..." Marina looked at the door. She didn't want the nurses to hear her. "It's just... I wanted to ask you for a favor."

She typed a message instead of speaking.

[Monday: Remember I told you about Samantha's party?]

Eva remembered a little. In her mind, with all those new memories of that world, it was difficult for her to fully remember those little details.

Only after a few seconds she recalled a woman by the name of Samantha, tall and elegant, only when she was in front of other people, but annoying when she was in front of someone else, like Eva. That woman made Eva's life miserable since she married Kian.

"Yes," Eva replied casually. "What's wrong with her?"

"I want you to go to her party."

Eva raised her eyebrows in surprise. She didn't expect Marina to ask that of her. After all, they both disliked that woman.

"I know, I know," Marina sighed. She wasn't as innocent as her brother made her seem. She knew what kind of person Samantha was, and how she hated Eva. But this time it was necessary for Eva to go to the party. "But you have to go, no matter what."

"What are you talking about? Tell me clearly."

"Do you remember the book I showed you last time, the one my grandfather gave me on my birthday? The one with the thousand buried treasures tale?"

Eva nodded. She was actually very curious about that book. If she had the opportunity to look at it again, she would take it. There were references to many ancient treasures that had been buried over time. It was said that they were magical. The author was a very rich explorer and had a mysterious identity. Eva was impressed by the accuracy of the treasure locations he wrote about.

"I think the Carlton family has discovered one of those treasures. I heard it from Samantha when she came to visit me last time. She was talking to her brother about some ancient ring. And I… I used the virus you gave me to jam her phone…" She covered her face with guilt. "I know I shouldn't, but…I wanted to see if it worked, and Samantha was there, you know."

Eva smiled with tenderness, that girl was such a cutie, "Don't worry, I'll send you better things later."

"Really?"

Marina's blue eyes shone with happiness. Only Eva taught her interesting stuff to do with the computer. Her parents said that she would exhaust herself if she continued and were worried about her health. Her tutors told her she shouldn't learn something so vulgar, but she knew they only said that to please her mother, Madame Hart. But Marina didn't care, she just wanted to learn more and become like Eva.

"Okay, I have to go," Eva said stretching her arms, someone was knocking on the door.

"Okay," Marina pouted. She wanted to talk more with Eva. "But you're going to the party, right?"

"Send me the address and the invitation," Eva winked. "I will see if I go."

"Yes," Marina nodded and ended the call as the nurses were coming back.

Eva closed the chat. She was very interested in that treasure of the Carlton family. "Will it be…?"

Again, someone knocked on the door, and she headed over there with a small smirk. At that moment, she only expected one person, her new assistant, Seth Reagan, but she knew that someone else was outside too.

Upon opening the door, a group of seven people were in the hallway, all dressed in black, with dark masks covering their faces.

They looked like thugs from some mercenary band, given their appearance, and the weapons scattered on the ground, baseball bats, knives, chains, and guns.

"They're from BlackTea, Miss Reed," said the man with squared glasses and wearing a designer suit. He was patting his hands to get rid of the dust on his shoulder.

Like Asher, he was tall, and muscular but not as heavy as Asher, instead, he looked athletic and elegant in his dark blue suit that didn't have a single bloodstain. Despite the unconscious bodies on the floor.

Eva smiled, yes, he was the type of man she was looking for.

"There must be someone who isn't very happy with you, Miss Reed," said the man, stepping over the thugs without mercy.

Eva stroked her chin and nodded. "You don't have an idea."

She opened the door for him to let him enter.

"But let's not talk about that, I want to know if you want to be my assistant."

"Salary?"

"20 thousand a month."

"Vacation?"

"To discuss, but I can promise you at least two weeks or a whole month if you agree to train an extra assistant."

"Death risk?"

"Above average, but I will compensate you for every assassination attempt you manage to stop without me having to do something."

Seth nodded and held out his hand. "We have a deal."
