Payphone

Here I am again

Wondering what you are doing

Second guessing my decision to not pick up the phone

So I just stand by the payphone

Yes, the payphone

You say you don't like people

That you don't have a phone because it brings falsehood into your life

And I came to love that about you

Having to tell your mom who I'm looking for when ever I call

Her wishing I could call more often

You being flustered on the line when she talks to me for more than a minute

😁Me messing with you for the hundredth time about your lack of a phone

I miss all of it

So now I stand here

Having a conversation with a inanimate object

Yes, I'm speaking with the payphone

You would have laughed at me if you knew this

If you knew that I now know when the payphone is giving me a mocking look

That the payphone knows everything that I know about you

And then maybe you'd get angry

You'd say why did you tell it about that night in Vegas

Ahh...that night in Vegas, one of the best nights of my life

The night I knew dreams did indeed come through

I stand by the payphone

Wondering....hoping and feeling lost inside

The payphone

Now, my hope, my friend and the thing I despise most of all
