Does her heart ache?(2)

After John left the room, he saw Kevin hugging a woman about to enter the next room. Kevin saw him too and immediately let go of the woman and walked towards him. "What, it's over already?" he said, his tone suggestive as he scanned John up and down.

John's face darkened as he pinched the bridge of his nose with his long, slender fingers. "What's going on between you and Lucas? And how did Alice Garcia end up in my room?"

Kevin smirked. "I had her accompany you because she's Jane's cousin. Using her will hurt Jane even more."

John was taken aback for a moment before he realized that Jane had just tried to take a picture of them with her phone. His anger grew.

If she was really hurt, she wouldn't have just stood there and watched him fool around with Alice Garcia without saying a word. Not only was she not hurt, she even tried to take a picture of them, probably to use as leverage.

She was too calm and collected, as if he didn't matter to her at all.

The more he thought about it, the angrier he got.

"That's a good plan," he said coldly, heading towards the elevator.

Kevin exclaimed, "You can't drive when you've had so much to drink. Let me find you a designated driver."

When John arrived home, everyone was already asleep. The mansion was shrouded in darkness as he made his way inside, but he suddenly felt something hanging on his leg.

Only Jill liked to cling onto his leg like that.

It was already nearly dawn. Why was she still awake?

He picked her up and carried her to her bedroom. As he entered the room, he saw that her eyes were swollen from crying.

"What's wrong, Jill?" he asked in a low voice as he sat down with her on her pink princess bed.

Jill sniffled, tears shimmering in her big grape-like eyes. "Grandma said that Mommy and Daddy got divorced, and from now on, I can only be with John's family and my Daddy. I can't see Mommy anymore. Is that true?"

Seeing the little girl cry, John's heart, which had grown so hard, shattered into pieces.

But divorce was something that could not be hidden forever. Moreover, as John's daughter, she should be strong and independent.

"Grandma was right," he said, his voice stern as he confirmed the truth.

Jill's tears flowed freely. She knew she couldn't cry out loud, especially not where her grandma could hear her. In fact, she had known for a long time that Mommy and Daddy might get a divorce. She had overheard Grandma and Land Butler discussing it more than once, and they had all spoken ill of her mother, saying that she and Jack didn't have the same father.

"Daddy, you're the most handsome and richest dad in the world, how could you be inferior to Jack's dad?"

John's face stiffened slightly as he stared at Jill with a stern but not angry look. However, Jill was too upset to pay attention to his expression. She cried incessantly and said, "Daddy, you taught me to be confident, why don't you go get Mom back? Mom is so beautiful, and only my dad is the perfect match for her, not even Jack's dad can compare."

The little girl didn't know who told her that after the divorce, her mother would be with Jack's dad.

John rubbed his forehead with a headache, regretting that he shouldn't have drunk tonight.

While others would pass out after drinking, he had to deal with the troublesome little girl after a long day at work.

"Adult matters are more complicated, and not something you kids can understand," he tried to explain to her in a gentle tone, then forced her to lie down and sleep.

Jill was tired from crying and held his hand tightly, closed her eyes and fell asleep.

As the night grew darker, John turned to look out the window and whispered, "Jane, is this the ending you wanted?"
