John opened his eyes groggily, struggling with his recent neck pain that had affected his sleep. He couldn't believe he had dozed off. He sat up and glanced at the obedient Jane, feeling much better with his neck.
"You can go now," he said with a cold tone and a strong aura, treating her as if she were a disposable slave.
Afraid that he might find out about the messages on her phone, she left immediately, feeling relieved as if she had been granted a pardon.
As she left the hotel, she realized she hadn't even had lunch yet and went to get something to eat before heading back to Starlight.
Her ordered desk had already been delivered, and the office had been newly decorated. She leaned on the desk and pondered silently.
She had been trying to contact Carl ever since she got back, but he didn't answer her calls or reply to her messages, which was unusual. However, he was a contracted agent of Starlight, and he would eventually come back to work. There was no need to be anxious about it.
As the saying goes, the fox will eventually show its tail.
After settling things in the office, she drove home. Xia Auntie was there, arranging the furniture she had ordered. Seeing her come back, Xia Auntie scolded her for being too wasteful.
Jane smiled dismissively, "This house is for Xia Auntie to retire in, so it should be comfortable."
Xia Auntie was touched and advised her with concern, "Now that you are divorced, you should come home more often. After all, even if you are family, not living together can make your relationship less close."
Jane lowered her head and thought for a moment. She felt that Aunt Xia's words made sense. Over the years, she had worked too hard and when she looked back, she found that even her parents had been taken away by an outsider. And now that outsider was still eyeing her family's property.
Why should she give in?
Moreover, Alice Garcia was not a good person, openly or covertly targeting her. She couldn't bear to be ridden by her.
"I'll pick up Jack and we'll have dinner together after finishing up here."
Aunt Xia smiled and nodded.
Jack finished school early, so Jane picked him up and bought some groceries. She personally cooked for Emma Garcia and Elizabeth.
When the couple came home and saw a table full of delicious food that they loved, their faces naturally beamed with smiles. They praised Jane several times, which was rare.
Jane obediently smiled, knowing that the reason her parents were so friendly to her was not just because of this meal, but because of Brandon Chen.
But John didn't allow her to see Brandon Chen now. It's just a matter of time before her parents find out. Then she would be kicked out of the house again.
Although the atmosphere was warm and harmonious at the dinner table, she felt a sense of desolation in her heart.
This was not a home, but a place of power and gain.
After dinner, Jane took Jack for a walk in the garden to aid digestion. Alice Garcia stood on the balcony of the second floor, looking down with a twisted face. Before, Jane was busy singing and taking care of her child, but now that her career was ruined, she had more time on her hands, and yet she used that time to compete with her.
This was simply unreasonable.
Jane Garcia felt a chill as she looked up at Alice Garcia, who was staring at her with a cold gaze. Despite the eerie feeling, Jane smiled at Alice Garcia and waved at her as a sign of sisterly affection.
This was her home, and she would protect it.
The Starlight and Garcia family legacies would be left to Jack and her missing child as a gift from a mother even after she passed away.
"You bitch!" Alice Garcia felt provoked and stormed back into the house, knocking over some bottles and jars on her dressing table with a loud noise.
Elizabeth happened to enter the room and witnessed the scene. She locked the door and came over to console Alice, "Are you really getting worked up just because she had a little flirtation with Brandon Chen?"
