CHAPTER 44

It was proper to place the blame for Dante's horniness on staying celibate for a while. The most amazing thing was how he felt aroused and how his wolf sprang to life whenever he was around Freya. He couldn't even control himself because he felt that his source of life was Freya. He felt stronger around her. Also, to his bafflement, his eyes briefly glistened bright red, and he snarled into her neck.

He looked down at her. For a second, something passed between them. Despite his perpetually cold exterior, he seemed to understand loss and disappointment-in a fundamental way that tainted someone's entire perception of life. Surprisingly, it was his second time having, feeling and showing any emotion since the death of his father.

He spun her around and slapped her bare knees like a scolding parent. It wasn't the burn, but the shock that made her fall down on all fours. She was blinking away the surprise when she felt him lower to his knees behind her.
