CHAPTER 20 He Wants Me

  Annie

I looked forward to seeing Evan all morning. He was the only person who was nice to me now, ironically enough.

No one else looked at me with kindness. Not even my own mother. I don't know what changed his attitude toward me, but I wasn't going to complain!

I finished all of my chores and headed to his house. Good thing he lived across the street, so I didn't have to worry about getting a ride.

I rang the doorbell and waited. No answer.

But just as I proceeded to ring it again, the door opened. I got flustered as his mom opened the door instead of him.

"Little Annie! Fancy seeing you here!" she exclaimed.

"I came to see Evan," I said and looked down shyly. His mother is so beautiful.

"Come on in," she said and opened the door wider. I came inside and looked around for him, but he was nowhere in sight.
