CHAPTER 44.Being Punished

As heartbroken as I was about all this, I was willing to accept it...for now. I couldn't lose Annie as a friend. That meant I had to watch her hang out with Mike at school.

  Ugh, this blows!

The other day after school, Mike insisted that he take Annie home even though I was her neighbor. We argued for a while. I tried to use logic. It really didn't make any sense for him to take a different route from home just so he could be with her?

"You get to see her during lunch period, but I don't," Mike argued. "We are going out together now. I want her to feel like we are boyfriend and girlfriend. That means we need to spend as much time together as possible."

He had a point. I did get to see Annie during lunch every day. I felt pleased knowing that.

I was sitting at our usual spot outside and smiled when I saw her approaching. I couldn't help but feel a flutter in my stomach. I couldn't think of a better way to spend my lunch break than in her company.
