  "So you are Helen's daughter. I haven't seen you since you were little," the woman in front of me said, who was supposedly my grandmother.

  I couldn't believe she was actually here. I didn't think anyone would want to take responsibility for me because of my condition.

  "I am Ella Fisher. I am sure your mother didn't have anything nice to say about me, did she?" she asked.

  "No, she didn't," I said quietly. There was no point in lying to this woman. My mother never did have anything nice to say about her. But then again, she had nothing nice to say about me either.

  Evan was sitting next to me, holding my hand. I blushed at the closeness of our bodies.

  "And who you might be?" she asked Evan.

  "This is Evan, my son," Stacy quickly introduced them.

  "You two seem awfully close. Are you her boyfriend?" Ella asked him without missing a beat.

  "No, I'm not. But I deeply care about her," Evan announced.
