  I could feel the butterflies in my stomach as I prepared to go out with James. I know technically this wasn't a date, but if he wanted to hang out, he must've liked me, right?

  Even if he didn't like me that way, I would still enjoy his company. I was tired of being alone in this city.

  As the time drew near, I started to feel more nervous. I checked my hair and makeup in the mirror several times, making sure everything was just right. I grabbed my purse and headed out the door.

  "Hold it right there."

  I stopped walking right away. My breath came out in short gasps.

  Because for a moment, I thought it was my mother talking behind me.

  "I am talking to you. Did you not hear me?" Grandma sounded irritated, so I snapped out of it.

  "S...sorry, grandma," I mumbled as I turned around.

  "Where are you going?"
