We arrived in Greece around nightfall. A string of cars were waiting for us at the jet shed, and there were even more men dressed in black suits. They were so many, over ten men in all, and I began to wonder again, who exactly Jordan was. Even an executive governor wouldn't have that much security details.
The men crowded around us as we stepped out of the jet, and Jordan barked out instructions to them, screaming to be heard over the sound of the jet, while he gently guided me towards the car. He opened the backdoor and held it open for me. I stepped in, and he followed.
I looked through the window as we sped through the ancient city of Greece. Never in my life had I dreamed that I would be in Greece. At least, not so suddenly. Well, I cannot say I exactly canceled it out. I was still very hopeful about my modeling career, and if it flourished, Greece could be one of my shoot locations. But it had never been on the map of my dream destinations, I just never thought I could afford it so early in my life.
Yet, here I was, in the back seat of a luxury car, cruising through the streets, watching the lights play by.
I knew very little about Greece. Infact, I knew practically nothing. All I knew was that it had many philosophers, and gods, and historic sights, and stones, and water bodies. All I had of it was textbook knowledge.
I secretly wished that I could see the city. Since I was here already, I really wanted to see the city, but it was too dark to see anything but flashing lights.
"Would you like to see the city?" Jordan asked, as if he had been reading my mind. I turned around, he was looking at me with a sincerity that said he didn't mean any mischief.
"Yes, I would like to see the city." I replied honestly.
Jordan smiled brightly, but there was a sign of mischief in his smile.
"For one who didn't want to come with, at first..." He said, still grinning. I sighed inwardly in frustration, and rolled my eyes. "Don't worry, I will let you see the city sometime, if you are a good girl." He said, and something about the way he said it sent curious sparks all over my body, so that I shivered. I looked up at him, struggling to understand what he meant, but he laughed and looked away.
Just then, the car pulled into the driveway of a grand looking hotel. My lips parted in awe as I looked up at the massive building.
We drove into the garage at the basement of the hotel, and Jordan once again guided me out of the car. He stepped out of the car first, then he held out his hand for me. I was overcome by a series of mixed emotions as I reluctantly took his hand.
I had known this man for so little time, but so far I could already tell he was a turbulence of temperaments, and he also happened to have the gift of inflicting rapids of emotions too. How he could switch personalities in a space of seconds, baffled me. How he could go from hot to cold so swiftly. One minute, he was a cold hearted monster, and the next, he was acting like a complete gentleman. He could speak with gentle tunes in one moment, and the next he was barking. His fluidity between sweet words and words as harsh as fire sands. How his eyes could burn with passion one second, and then with hate in the next. It was a mystery. Jordan was a mystery to me.
Jordan led me to the elevator door, and waited until I got in, then he entered. I noticed for the first time that only two of the men in suit were still following us. They got in the elevator too, and the elevator began to ascend.
I couldn't tell how high we went, but the lift took quite a while. I imagined that we were probably heading for the penthouse, wouldn't be surprising after all I had came to know about Jordan. He was very capable of owning a penthouse at such a grand hotel. But when the doors finally opened up, I was hit by the sound and waves of a revving helicopter. We were at the rooftop! I thought our journey had ended at the hotel, but no! We still had somewhere to go, in an helicopter!
I turned to Jordan and asked, screaming above the sound of the engine.
"Where are we going to now?"
Jordan smiled at me, then he leaned closer and said.
"You'll see."
He led me to the helicopter and helped me get in.
I felt a little restless during the helicopter ride. It was my first time on a helicopter, and I felt so exposed in the air craft. I could see all the far spread of darkness around, and the lights in a distance. All of it would have been such a beautiful sight, if I wasn't feeling so nervous.
I held on tightly to Jordan's arm, and he gently put his hand over mine in understanding, bringing my head to rest on his upper arm. I buried my face there, feeling grateful, and protected, and safe.
The flight didn't take very long. We landed pretty soon.
I lifted my head from Jordan's arm when I felt the vessel touch the ground. I looked around, and I could see lights in a distance. But the lights seemed to be concentrated in just one area, unlike the city where the lights lined the streets, glowing brightly.
We alighted the helicopter, and Jordan led me to a waiting car again. As I walked, I looked around. I was right, that light was the only sign of light in sight. All around, for a long, long stretch, there was no other sign of light. All the city lights had disappeared!
"Where are we?" I asked Jordan when we got into the car.
"You'll see." He said with a grin.
I sat still, feeling uneasy as we drove towards the lights.
When we had driven away from the sound of the helicopter, Jordan rolled down the windshield, and I was immediately confronted with the sound of chirping birds and insects, and the crashing of waves. My eyes widened as I turned to Jordan again.
"Are we on an island right now?" I asked.
"Yes, my love." He drawled. "I promised you, didn't I?"
I gasped as I remembered what he had said. I had not imagined that he had really meant it. "Welcome home." He said.
