Prologue:Victorian London

A woman in a red dress gently rocked an infant in her arms, "It's alright my love mama is right here."

A man dressed in a brown suite walked into the room, "Meg... Are you sure this is what you want?"

The woman looked up, "I'll not be having my little one growing up to be used as a pawn by him Charlie. She deserves more than that."

Charlie sat beside her and looked at the baby, "She sure is beautiful... Like her mother."

Meg blushed at his words, "Now you stop that flirting Charlie. You know there's always a spot in my bed and heart for you."

Charlie kissed her temple, "Come on Meg the train will be at the station soon."

Meg nodded, "My sister and her friend said she'd meet us there to take little one."

Charlie sighed, "Not sure how I feel about two spinsters raising a child."

Meg laughed, "Oh they'll be fine..." She paused letting a hint of sadness into her voice, "They'll do better than a whore and thief like me."

Charlie hugged her.

At the train station Meg handed her sister the baby and the baby's suite case, "Now Anna there should be-"

Anna cut her off, "Meg I swear she'll be safe with me and Mary."

Meg wiped her eyes knowing a more trustworthy soul than her sweet sister Anna never existed, "I'll miss you sister."

Upon returning to her rented rooms Meg was startled by a male's voice, "I could forgive the stealing of the necklace Meggy, but the hiding of my daughter... That's just wrong."

Meg jumped, "Michael... How..."

Michael lit a cigarette, "Haven't you learned I've eyes everywhere?" He stepped forward, "Where is she?"

Meg stood tall, "Far away from the likes of us and this life."

Michael back handed her, "I brought in from the gutter! I taught you how to be a lady of worth and this... This is how I am repaid? You hide my only daughter!"

Meg yelled back, "You will not find her! You will not take her innocence away!"

Michael gripped her hair, "I will find her!"

Meg pulled a knife from her pocket and stabbed him.

He was surprised and stumbled back. Meg stabbed him again, "You'll never lay a finger on her."

Meg fell back on her bottom and cried, "You're safe now."
