Sunnyside Up

Applewood was a well known community outside of Middletown. It was little over thirty miles outside of the county. In mid July apple season brought tourists and locals far and wide to sample the local apple butter and participate in the Apple Festival. Come winter, when all the tourists head home: hunting season for locals begins. Natives and locals alike prepare for this time of year as the hunted meat gets stored for the remainder of winter lasting some families up until early summer.

Gregory was waiting at a rest stop a few miles out from the town proper. The rest stop was an old gas station called Sunside. It doubled as a convenience store and was a popular hangout for teens on either side of the county. It was a simple station with two pumps and one portable toilet that was locked up with a heavy, rusted chain tied to the building. It was occasionally taken off to be cleaned, but during the winter the stall was a hazard to the common man.
