The street lights glowed with a yellowish hue, as small bugs fluttered around them. The small cafe on the right of the bridge which was built on top of a narrow stream was crowded by pedestrians as they walked back and front on the arch.
Among those pedestrians, a woman was rushing past the bustling crowd. She was wearing a black dress with a white jacket which was buttoned in a hurry as the buttons were not in their correct slots, making it look like a two-year-old had buttoned it up for her, her face was covered with a mask and big sunglasses which caused many pedestrians to pause and look at her since she looked a bit shady.
Maybe the woman realised that she was being gawked at because she raised her hand and then brought the white hat which was sitting on top of her head slightly downwards to hide her face and increased her pace to avoid the crowd which was looking at her.
With her long legs, she was able to cross the bridge quite quickly and then she turned to look at the cafe in front of her and then glanced at the people who were sitting in front of the cafe under the umbrellas which were placed on top of the tables and chairs, her gaze finally fell on the person she was looking for and without even looking at anything else she strode straight towards the young girl who was reading a book.
Thump.
Xua Ying Yue raised her head as she looked at the person who was standing in front of her, she raised a brow when she saw the get up of the person in front of her and very calmly said, " If you do kidnap me, my sister will only be able to pay you in alms bowl."
" Do not joke with me right now," Doctor Lin pushed the mask which was sitting on her face down and then took off the sunglasses she was wearing before glaring at Xua Ying Yue who oohed when she saw who was the person in the mask.
Doctor Lin sat down on the chair opposite Xua Ying Yue as she stretched her hand and then picked up the cup of hot water which was sitting on the table and drowned it in one go. She was used to travelling in her car everywhere she wanted to go but because she did not wish her husband to find out that she was going somewhere far from home, instead of using the car she chose public transport and was really tired after standing for such long hours.
" Do you want tea or something cold?" Xua Ying Yue asked as she noticed Doctor Lin wiping the sweat on her forehead with the handkerchief that she had balled in her hand.
Doctor Lin did not answer at once instead she used the handkerchief to wipe her face only then did she open her mouth and replied, " I will go with tea, even though I feel a bit sweaty, it's still cold. Drinking something cold in this weather and that too after running will lead to a sore throat." As she spoke she fanned herself with her hands.
Xua Ying Yue flagged a waiter who came to take their orders and as he jotted down the things which she had ordered and took a leave after a quick bow, Xua Ying Yue turned to look at Doctor Lin whose face was still a bit flushed.
" You did not have to wear so many layers," Xua Ying Yue remarked when her eyes fell on the long dress which Doctor Lin was wearing along with boots and long shocks. " This cafe is way out of the main city and hardly anyone comes here other than the tourists who are travelling."
" Well, I didn't wish to stumble on someone I do not wish to see," replied Doctor Lin as she looked at Xua Ying Yue, her expression was that of hesitation. Though she knew that what Xua Ying Yue told her was the truth, she could not believe it, or more like she did not wish to believe it.
She and her husband were married for more than ten years, in her eyes they were living a happy life. They did not lack anything and also had a beautiful and obedient daughter together—— what else could one want other than a happy family and peace in their life?
But now that she was aware of her husband's infidelity, Doctor Lin felt like someone had smacked her in the face, the life that she thought was fulfilling, was actually lacking in the eyes of her husband!
Xua Ying Yue did not say anything instead she waited for Doctor Lin to speak first, if Doctor Lin didn't wish to accept the fact that her husband had cheated on her, there was no point in saying anything.
Acceptance was the first step when it came to taking revenge unless one wasn't fuelled with the desire of overturning the lives of those who betrayed them, just what kind of revenge can they even take?
So while Doctor Lin was lost in her thoughts, she started to look around the street and watched the bustling crowd and the noisy children.
" Did you….really see my husband?" Doctor Lin only spoke up after the waiter was done serving the hot tea and some cakes.
" You are here only because you know that your husband was here, Doctor Lin," Xua Ying Yue answered as she picked up the tiny fork which was no bigger than her palm and then smoothly sliced the osmanthus cake and took a bite from it before raising her head and looking at Doctor Lin as she smiled gently and said, " We might have been teacher and student but we were not so close that you will come rushing to see me."
Doctor Lin flushed a little at Xua Ying Yue's response. She also knew that the question that she asked just now was foolish but —— how can she just casually accept that her husband of ten years betrayed her?
