Chapter 2

"It is still polite to ask. What you say remains an assumption until we confirm it with the people. We also need to learn more of the land we are building our sect upon. Knowing something is better than jumping in blindly."

Hearing Feng Delun's explanation, Lai Meihui was silenced.

When the nine cultivators stepped into the decrypt village many eyes landed on them. The villagers whispered quietly not wanting the cultivators to catch on to their conversation, obviously it was futile. Cultivators had their senses heightened beyond that of a normal living being, eavesdropping on these villagers' conversation would be an elementary task for them.

"They seemed to be cultivators."

"What are they doing here? No one comes to this Barren realm."

After a not so secret discussion between the villagers, an old man walking with a cane slowly approached them.

Learning that the villagers were wary of their presence, they shared a tacit understanding and looked towards Wu Jinjing. Silently urging her to take the lead of the situation. Although Wu Jinjing was terrifying, she had the face of a soft and gentle woman. Her appearance masked her true self.

Wu Jinjing did not disappoint. The woman met with the old man halfway through. "Hello old man, I and my fellow brothers and sisters are planning to establish a sect in this realm in the future."

The old man's eyes widened. "A, A sect? That place where people can learn to cultivate?" The news sounded unbelievable to the old man's ears, he thought he was deaf for sure.

"Yes! We are still choosing the perfect location to build our sect." Wu Jinjing beamed.

The cane in the old man's hand shook terribly, Wu Jinjing seemed worried. "Old man are you alright?" She gently supported the old man.

"Ye, yes!" The old man seemed energetic despite his trembling body. Then the old man seemed to realise something. "Young lady… although it is amazing to hear that this Barren realm will soon gain its first cultivation sect, this realm is ill-suited for cultivators like you."

The old man solemnly placed his palm over his other hand that was holding the cane. "There's barely any spiritual energy flowing through these lands, not even a single beast could be born here." The old man peered into Wu Jinjing's eyes. "It's simply impossible."

Faced with the old man's pessimism, Wu Jinjing remained confident, instead of fixing the old man's thoughts of impossibilities she steered the conversation to another direction. "Old man, you know so much about spiritual energy for someone who lived around these parts."

The old man chuckled. "I'm actually not from this Barren realm, but from the Southern realm."

How unexpected, to think someone from a far better conditioned place would willingly live here. Wu Jinjing asked further, "Isn't the southern realm a better place to live in than here?"

The old man let out a tired sigh. "Although that is true, the same could not be said of the high amount of beasts roaming around the southern realm lands. Here I could barely grow my corps, but at the very least I could ignore the threat of beasts appearing and trying to come after my neck."

It was indeed a sound reasoning. Wu Jinjing further asked, "Old man, would you mind telling me about what you know of these lands?"

Wu Jinjing and the old man fell into a lively chatter.

To the side, Wu Jinjing's brothers and sisters cultivators looked on with amazement.

"She could talk normally…" Feng Delun trailed.

"I know, it's amazing." Luo Huifang whispered.

The normal Wu Jinjing they were familiar with, was a woman that would speak of atrocious experiments she had performed. Like the experimentation she did with the horses. To the world Wu Jinjing was highly regarded as the white moonlight. The most sought after cultivation partner.

Her way of treating the old man shed some light as to why many would believe Wu Jinjing to be their white moonlight. Her double face was very thick!

Sensing that someone had arrived, the cultivators looked to the sky. The old man and Wu Jinjing's attention was stolen. Conversation halted, the villagers' mouths left agape. With the sun on his back, black robes fluttering in the wind, long black hair untied, a man that could only be described with the word "Immortal" graced them with his presence.

The man gently touched down on the earth, almost as if the man was afraid with a single step the ground beneath him would split open. His focus though lies all with the tiny bundle of black cloth he was carrying.

Noting the bright barren land, the immortal swept his empty hand to the sky. Nature bent to the man's whims, clouds covered the sky dimming the sunlight. The once cloudless sky was grey.

This phenomenon started an uproar among the villagers.

"There are clouds! The clouds are covering the entire sky!"

"We only have rain once a month, will there actually be a second rain?"

"Thank the Immortal!"

The tiny bundle of black cloth stirred, a gurgling sound could be heard. The cultivators who noticed the movements from the bundle gulped down their dread. The immortal patted the bundle, and the movements stopped, a small deep breath could be heard. The nine sighed in relief.

"I was ready to give up my abacus for the little ancestor to play as a rattle." Jin Liwei patted his chest.

Li Jiayi hit Jin Liwei's shoulder. "Fool, your abacus is too big! How can a baby play it?"

"I was just saying, it's better to give up my abacus than listen to the little ancestor's screams." Jin Liwei defended himself.

Ignoring the two men, Luo Huifang approached the immortal who was holding the bundle of black cloth. Just this bundle seemed to not fit the immortal's appearance. She quietly peeked at the baby in the bundle. Soft cheeks like white buns, long lashes, pink pouty lips. Who would've known this little thing was a devil when she's awake.
