Chapter 16: The deal

Noticing the tension between the two young men, the princess tried to stop any unnecessary argument from occurring between them.

"I'll be back seb" She relayed to him, holding zephyr's arms, she pulled her along with him.

Seb gritted his teeth in anger as he watched their disappearing backs, if the princess hadn't interrupted, he planned to pounce on Zephyr and deal with him mercilessly.

After all, Zephyr was just a human, in Seb's view. Getting a punch from a beta like him could render him lifeless in seconds.

The burning rage in his heart didn't dissolve, with every minute that his eyes were fixed on the back of the princess and her new bodyguard. He could feel thousands of arrows plunged right into his heart.

No! He can't just stand and do nothing!

Seb thought of following them to see what the princess was up to but he tried hard to refrain from doing so because he knew that the princess didn't like her space being evaded.

Seb sat on the chair, plunged into his thoughts till when he decided to watch the princess. Since he wasn't going to be around to watch her himself, he might as well get a worker to help him with the job.

He saw a maid walking by, she was holding a basin in her hand. Seb supposed that she was going to meet her so he held her up.

"Lord Sebastian" The maid acknowledge him with a bow.

Seb nodded, he motioned for the lady to come closer and she did. Standing next to him, he leaned closer to her till the tip of his mouth touched her ear.

The maid gasped, "W-what are you doing?" she questioned, unaware of what was happening between them right now, she was even scared that someone might catch her in this scandalous position with him.

Seb rolled his eyes in annoyance. "Can I trust you?"

Surprised by the question, the maid nodded anyway.

"Good, now, all I want is for you to watch the princess and let me know of everything that she does with that bodyguard of hers" Seb inferred.

Uhh? The maid thought in her head, she didn't know that the lord had this whimsical personality.

Seb pulled her from her trance, "I'm talking to you!" he yelled at her.

The maid bowed in fear, "I'm sorry my lord but I can't do that" Her voice shook in apprehension.

'Oh, you would' seb thought as he brought out a golden bar from his pocket.

"I'm paying you for this job. Not like you're doing it free of charge, what do you say? Dear?" He asked, his lips curling into a cunning smile.

The maid glared at the golden bar, her eyes radiated the golden color and she need not hesitate before betraying her princess for the golden bar. "I'll do it"

Seb smiled at her firm response. That was all he needed, "How close are you to the princess? He asked further.

"Not really close, the princess doesn't entertain any form of closeness with us except for Helen but she is really good and doesn't maltreat us" The maid explained.

"I want you to get closer to the princess, you must keep maximum watch on her. Even when she goes to sleep" He added.

'Then how do I sleep' the maid thought in her head. She opened her mouth to ask the lord but he placed a finger on her lips to stop her from talking.

"You would communicate everything to me, by handing your letters to my bird. You would notice it once it comes around."

"Yes my lord" she agreed with a slight bow of her head.

"No one must know of our deal, once a third party is involved or you flop this transaction, you should know it's the end of your generation" he warned her, sternly.

"Take this, I'll send more to you when I hear of good reports" He thrust the golden bar into her hands.

"Yes, my lord" The maid uttered, she watched seb exit the arena like he hadn't said anything to her in the first place.

Dera glanced at the golden bar in her hand, she smiled viciously and placed it into her clothes. She straightened her spine and walked away from there as well.

Almost getting to the princess's chamber, she encountered an angry Helen on her way. The young woman's brows creased and her fist was clenched as she headed in Dera's direction.

But why was she this furious? The maid thought in her head.

'Or did she perhaps hear of my discussion with the lord?' she asked herself again as she kept her gaze low.

'Looks like it. Helen is so mad at me, she could inform the princess and the king!' Dera tried to compose herself but she couldn't panic and fear resonated within her, causing her to become unsteady as she took her steps.

She almost fell if Helen hadn't grabbed her quickly.

Dera fidgeted, neatly throwing away the water in the basin.

Helen glared at her, "What is your problem, you clumsy maid?. The princess has been waiting since!" she exclaimed.

"Get going!" she yelled in anger. She hadn't seen Dera act so fearful like this. And the sight of her walking slowly was enraging Helen.

Though she was one to be kind to her fellow maids, she didn't entertain stupidity from them either.

'Phew' Dera let go of the breath she didn't know she was holding. Her pace hastened as she headed for the princess's room.
