Margaret was always wishing to wake from her dream because her husband's ailment was still a shock to her.
The doctor demanded that Charles would undergo a surgery worth fourteen million naira. Immediately she heard the amount of money to be used for surgery, she got dumbfounded for some seconds.
The money wasn't much but it was a new experience to her. She only see that on movies where doctor would request a huge sum of money before he could commence treatment on some patients.
This was where Margaret's suffering began. She was worth more than such money until she ordered goods worth of twenty million naira the previous day and was left with only eight hundred thousand in her account.
Charles was also bankrupt because of the investment worth of seventeen million he got engaged in.
Everything happened so fast that they couldn't turn back the hands of time to take care of their problems.
Margaret tried to borrow from friends who she managed to talk to, they denied her help because she wasn't that close to them. She tried taking a loan from the bank, Charles objected because there was nothing to get collateral with aside their current house.
Had anyone in this world told me that i am going to find myself in this kind of condition, I would have slapped that person on the face and reject it.
Omg! Where do I get such kind of money from at this moment, my goods isn't forth coming not even in a month's time. Who do I run to? She was sitting alone and shedding tears, asking rhetorical questions.
She had gone home to rest when her phone rang, It was one of the friends she ran to that called back to lend her the money she came for earlier that day. The loan was two million naira added to the eight hundred thousand she got. "Madam Charles, sorry that won't be enough for the deposit,"said doctor Scott.
Few weeks later, she was able to gather five point five million naira for the deposit before the doctor commenced treatment.
She was in the hospital when her phone rang again and it was from her business ship. "Hello Madam, we are sorry to announce to you that the ship containing your goods and other people's got sinked in the ocean" the ship agent notified Margaret and hung up immediately.
Her phone was still on her ear when she got up, walked to the exit of the hospital and fainted. It was a miserable call and it hurts so bad knowing that all her efforts got drowned just like that.
The pressure was too much for her to bear. Life became harder for her than she has been experiencing.
Charles was still trying to get all required treatment but it got cut short because the source where the money was coming from got hurt and she couldn't do anything but cry all day.
Charles was there but never knew what was happening around him. Maybe he was asleep when the nurses were shouting and trying to help Mrs. Charles get on her feet.
They got her to sit and asked what had happened to her. She told them, the two nurses looked at themselves in shock, shook their heads in pity.
She fell again from the seat she was sitting on, one of the nurses fell on her knees to be able to go down her level at the moment and said encouraging words to her.
The news was too bad to be shared with her blind husband. She only kept it to herself each time she goes to visit her sick husband in the hospital because it was really obvious he didn't know anything that happened to his wife in the same hospital, he must really be in deep recovering sleep.
Her husband noticed she was no longer in her consoling mood, this time, she is always sweating on the face and her voice fades.
Her quietness like she is not there made Charles really uncomfortable.
"What is wrong with you babe?" Charles asked and got a lie for an answer.
"I'm fine, just stressed out," she said.
"Are you sure?" He asked and answered himself again.
"Yeah I know you are," he continued,
"my strong woman, thank you so much for being by my side, I appreciate you and your efforts in making sure I regain my sight."
Stating all Margaret has been doing until she couldn't hold herself anymore and she cried out.
"Babe, I thought you said you were not crying," he said, stretching his hand to her face.
"My goods sank in the ocean two days ago," she said in a miserable tone and tears.
"Your goods what?" He said and withdrew his hand.
Acted like he was dead, after few seconds, he began to shout and destroy things very close to him. He stood up from his bed and turned his bed upside down.
In fear, Margaret had already ran outside to call the hospital attendants and the doctor.
They came in, to see his ward upside down and Charles crying helplessly on the floor.
They helped him stand and the nurses arranged the ward.
"I am finished?"
"Where do I go from here?"
"What is happening to my family?" He asked so many questions that can't be answered immediately.
Everything going on at the moment made Margaret's heart very heavy, she was afraid Charles would die with all the fights he was fighting with himself and anyone that comes too close.
He was finally calmed and the doctor recommended some treatment for him which would be given to him by the nurses.
"Honey please calm down, all hope is not lost," she said crying.
It was hard to believe that all hope is not lost because they can't go begging on the street.
Charles in tears began to have imaginary flashback of how perfect their lives were until he got involved in the accident.
His flashback thought made him not to hear whatever consolation his wife was saying.
