CHAPTER 35:            BOSCO MUST DIE IV

Inside the bathroom, she started replaying everything that had happened in the short interaction with Bosco.

'But Monica, you are being unfair to Bosco for nothing. It was you who insisted that all men are the same. Remember that shocked look on his face when you said that he could be peeking at you.' Her rational mind kicked to show her that she was the proponent of everything.

She took a deep breath as she stepped under the shower and washed away this emotional turmoil. The cool water flowing from the showerhead was refreshing to her skin, she began rotating around as she made sure that it touched every square inch of her skin.

The feeling was exhilarating: knowing that she had lived to see a new day, knowing that she and her loved ones had survived the feared apocalypse2, knowing that her life was still on track despite the ups and downs.

It was so enjoyable that she spent more time in the bathroom than she had planned to. But she did not regret it, all the tension and worries that had weighed her down had been washed away. She felt: refreshed, reborn, and reinvigorated.

She was reborn, her future back on track and so was her destiny. Apocalypse2 had overshadowed her future and whatever plans she had before it was announced to the world. It was only now that she realized how much she had been weighed down with the worries of not making it through.

She was now going to live life to the fullest. No more uncertainties, no more half-measures.

Monica Namatovu turned off the show and examined her new self in the mirror.

"I AM BACK!" She told herself while imitating one of her favorite Hollywood actors from a bygone era.

She picked the towel and dried herself thoroughly before applying her cosmetics and then changing into fresh state of clothes. Once she felt that she was smart and presentable, she walked out of the bathroom.

Monica felt lucky to have a place such a place at her disposal at such a time. She knew that many people outside were in a worse state based on the patients she had seen entering the underground hospital on Levels 1 & 2. But all this would not be possible if her colleague and friend Bosco Masaba had not put it at her disposal. That is when she acknowledged that all this was done for her by Bosco and yet she had accused him of being a pervert. Not only that. She had shouted at him while telling him to move out.

Monica Namatovu began feeling bad, this was not proper, and her parents had raised her better than this. She felt that if this was left to fester, it could impact their friendship.

Bosco Masaba was the only countryman she had in her class; it could be a pity if they didn't get along because of her emotional outbursts and false accusations.

'I need to apologize to Bosco; my prejudice got the better of me.' Monica Namatovu told herself as she walked to the glass door but she stopped in her steps before opening it.

She saw something she was not supposed to see.

Through the glass door, she saw Doctor Jean Pombe forcefully apply a wet handkerchief on Bosco Masaba's nose and mouth while he was bent over the desk doing some work. Bosco started struggling violently to push away the handkerchief from his face but Doctor Jean Pombe was stronger than him, he held onto Bosco until he ceased struggling and became lax in his hands.

Monica Namatovu was terrified and shocked to see such a thing, she almost shouted out to tell Doctor Jean to leave Bosco alone but held herself back by putting her hand over her mouth, she could not trust herself not to shout out.

'Oh my God, why is this happening?' Monica Namatovu could not understand why such a thing was happening. She held herself from running out to go and save Bosco, she that she could also be in trouble if Doctor Jean knew that she had seen him. What kept her safe was the fact that only Bosco Masaba knew that she was inside here.

Not wanting to be noticed, she hid behind the door and this action saved her. Doctor Jean Pombe having neutralized Bosco Masaba started looking around to see if anyone had noticed him.

His senses told him that someone had seen him but he brushed it off when he looked around the empty laboratory and saw no one besides him and his victim. He had made sure that only Bosco and he had the keys to this place, he had also retrieved the spare key and given it Bosco to keep.

Docter Jean Pombe went ahead to lay Bosco on the sterile laboratory floor. He had applied chloroform on Bosco Masaba to incapacitate him for some time so that he could properly administer something to kill him.

While on Level 1 with other doctors treating the accident victim Amos Tatu. They had concluded that Amos Tatu had been poisoned by a fragment of the asteroid which had been implanted on his thigh before dissolving into his bloodstream. They tried all possible ways to neutralize the poison but it did not work.

Before the accident, Amos Tatu was already dying from a cocktail of diseases afflicting his frail and aged body. The accident had inflicted upon him injuries that worsened his state. He got a brain injury from the accident that put him in a coma, he also had several broken ribs plus the effects of severe blood loss. All these were life-threatening, when combined with the blood poisoning it became fatal. They tried what they would, however it was not enough.

When the Doctors attending to Amos Tatu read the laboratory report concerning his blood sample which Bosco Masaba had uploaded into the system, they deduced that Amos Tatu had been poisoned and it was an aggressive poison which they had no cure. Amos Tatu's blood and organs were not only infected but also very contagious. It was recommended that he be cremated immediately.

Doctor Jean having discovered how deadly Amos Tatu's blood was, realized this was the perfect opportunity to kill Bosco Masaba and make it appear like an accident. This met the criteria set by the Governor in the mission directive. He could accuse Bosco Masaba of mishandling the infected blood sample so that it infected him.

Monica Namatovu continued peeking through the glass door at intervals.

She saw Doctor Jean Pombe drawing some darkish blood into a syringe, he made sure the syringe was full before he stopped. Afterward, he bent down and slowly injected it into Bosco's hand. He did not stop on one syringe; he drew another full syringe and injected it into the incapacitated Boso Masaba.

With the crime committed, he went ahead to set the scene. Doctor Jean Pombe scattered and broke some tubes with blood so that they were on the floor with Bosco. As if this was not enough, he went ahead to throw the microscope on top of Bosco Masaba. It looked like Bosco Masaba had been involved in a lab accident.

It was just a matter of time before Bosco Masaba was pronounced dead from blood poisoning. Doctor Jean Pombe was happy that he had accomplished the mission handed out by the Governor before some other Lieutenant snatched it from him.

To make the scene more convincing, he called upstairs that there had been a laboratory accident and the victim required immediate medical attention. Within minutes, medical staff came and carried away Bosco Masaba for emergency treatment. The culprit followed them while trying to show that he was grieved by the events that had transpired in his domain.

Monica Namatovu who was hiding saw all this and was disgusted by the acting of Doctor Jean Pombe. Tears were streaming down her eyes because she did not know whether Bosco Masaba was alive or not. If he was alive, she feared that he may not live for long. She did not know what had been injected into Bosco, but she knew it was deadly. Docter Jean was an intelligent man; he could not stage such a scene to let his victim walk away.

This was an assassination disguised as a laboratory accident.

How could she help Bosco Masaba, she scratched her head for answers.
