It's Pink

*

I was woken up by the sound of knocking on my door, feeling irritated I groaned and shouted at the top of my voice.

"Go away. It's still too early." I said getting more comfortable in my bed.

"I'm sorry ma'am, but you've been summoned for breakfast." The lady outside said.

"I'm not hungry." I said trying to drown out whoever was talking with my pillow.

"But ma'am, Sir is going to be really angry if you're not down in time." She insisted.

"Fine! Fine! I'll be right down." I announced.

I went to the bathroom splashed cold water on my face and brushed my teeth aggressively, I took out a new hoodie and some shorts with my black crooks on my feet as I waltzed into the dining room.

My stepmother scoffed at seeing my appearance but I really didn't give two shits about it, I walked over to the seat by my father and sat down.

"Nice of you to join us Cyra." Father said not looking away from his plate.

"Slept in, I'm still getting used to the time difference." I said digging into the plate in front of me.

"Fine, I'll let you have the weekend off, on Monday you resume at the office with me." Father said without a warning.

I choked on my food instantly as did Patricia, after a while, we calmed down and simultaneously shouted.

"What!!!"

"It's a decision I've taken as the head of this house. You will make yourself useful to this family." Father continued.

"My lord, what are you saying, you already have dear Veronica working with you every day, what more could you possibly want." Patricia pitched in but Veronica threw her face away in guilt trying to avoid direct eye contact.

"Victoria isn't good with the matters of the office, that's why I want to marry her off to a good man." Father answered.

"She hardly comes around anyways, just takes her time shopping." I saw Veronica's face fall at father's conclusion but I wasn't surprised, she was Patricia's daughter after all.

"I'll pass, thank you." I finally said through all the commotion.

"What?" Father asked slowly.

"Before you called me home I had just gotten a very good job offer to take care of myself, it may not concern you but I don't wish to stay here all my life, rather I'd like to leave immediately after Veronica's wedding." I said still eating.

"What insolence is this?" Father said slamming on the table making me flinch.

I hated violence because of my father, and now any act of violence in front of me would end with me having a traumatic panic attack.

"I-it's simple, if you don't want me around I could just pack my bags and leave, back to the U.S." I gave my honest option but that just infuriated him the more.

"Just what do you think you are defiling my orders. You're not going anywhere and you're going to work with me this Monday." Father said whipping their mouth and throwing away the napkin with a disgusted look on his face.

I composed myself, I wasn't going to let him get the best of me so I shot up before he left the dining room.

"Then I plead that you give me the rest of the week to gather my thoughts." I said to my father before he left.

"Do as you please. My word is final." He said then left.

Patricia stood up too, looking at me with pure disgust in her eyes as she said.

"I do not know what kind of witchcraft you have used on your father but I promise you it won't work." She said looking me dead in my eyes.

I rolled my eyes sitting down to continue eating as if no one had spoken.

"And you, come with me, you have a lot of explaining to do." She said to Veronica dragging her away I suppose.

And that was how everyone left leaving me alone at the table.

"Fuck!" I said out loud. I couldn't believe my father was trying to punish me in such a way.

I spent an extra five minutes alone in the large dining room giving myself reasons I shouldn't have been born.

"Why did you leave me, mother?" I said lightly as a tear escaped my eye.

In a moment I stood up abruptly and charged to my room, switched my shorts to one of my good sweatpants, and got a coat and my purse, in a minute I was already running downstairs.

I knew at that moment that I just needed to leave that house, it was never a home, to begin with. With my hand on the door nob, I heard...

"Run away will you, that's about the best thing a cursed child can do." Patricia said from the top of the stairwell.

I took one good look at her and left not willing to entertain her jealousy, since it was the end of winter the weather had changed slightly but it was still a bit chilly, it would seem that princess Veronica wanted her wedding during the winter.

I walked out of the estate and walked towards the gate as if on command, all the servants ignored me like I was another random person begging in the estate.

I walked out the gate and took my phone out of my pocket, thankfully I downloaded an uber app before coming back home.

I opened the app and requested an uber, I typed in my house address and waited a good eight minutes before my driver came.

I entered the back seat and closed the door.

"Hello miss, where will it be today." The elderly man asked.

"Good morning, I would like to go to the town please." I said trying to be as polite as possible, I wasn't going to let my rotten family spread their hate through me.

"Will do miss." The man said and started driving immediately after.

After a good 10 minutes of driving, I noticed the driver stealing occasional glances at me and I also became curious.

"Sir? Do you want to say anything?" I asked.

"Well, I'm sorry if I came off as offensive miss, but something in you looks sad and my taxi's a happy one." The man said.

"I appreciate the gesture but I'm fine." I said trying to avoid the question.

"Well I would but you don't even know where you're going, do you miss?" He said right off the bat.

"We-well well I- I never said that." I said defensively.

"Miss when you've been in this field of work as long as I have, you intend to pick a thing or two about people, especially youngsters like yourself." I definitely couldn't argue with what the man had to say so I stayed quiet.

"If you want miss I could take you to a great coffee and sweets shop, I reckon that would lift your spirit. When you get there just tell her the Smithy sent you." The strange man offered.

"Why are you doing this?" I asked.

"Well miss, this here world could use a little more kindness, you never know what a fellow is passing through." He replied honestly.

I felt unsure for a minute but I relaxed knowing that I probably would never see this man again.

"I've been outcasted from my family since my mother died, and now my ol'pops wants to take full control of my life after bringing me back from exile and my younger step-sister is getting married soon." I said summarizing all my life's problems to my uber driver.

"Oh my... That's a lot for such a youngster like you, but I'm sure your father only wished the best for you, don't be so harsh on the old man." The strange man said as we reached a stop in front of a small cookie shop.

"I never said anything about my father? How did you know?" I asked suspiciously as I got down.

"Well missy, I can tell you're a Hudson daughter even if my eyes were covered with brick, you look exactly like Lady Vanessa." He said with a warm smile.

"Yo- you know about my mother?" I asked in shock.

"Greatest Historian St Andrews University ever saw." He said as he pulled out a card handing over to me.

"Here, call me whenever you need a ride around town, this one's on me." He said about to leave but I was so flustered that I began following the taxi.

"What was she like?" I screamed.

"Stand up straight, your mother was a good woman." He screamed back waving a hand through his window.

I was already gasping at the loss of air in my lungs as I watched the black taxi leave my view.

I stood up straight smiling into the empty street, I turned around to go back to the cookie shop.

Walking into the small corner shop named Penny's Cookies, totally different from the outside the interior was very different and by that I mean...

Pink! Ew!
