Welcome to Fovx Industries

I got up as my alarm rang by 6 am, getting ready for my first day on the job. I was so anxious the night before that I read through my entire contract and then placed every item of clothing for the next few days.

By exactly 6:42 am, I was done getting ready and I called Smith who just happened to be in front of my house waiting for me.

"Good morning miss," Smith said.

"Isn't it too early to tease someone on their first day of work?" I smiled.

"Helps one relax now, doesn't it," Smith said back.

"Good morning Smith, believe you had a good night?" I asked.

"Wonderful, thank you. By the way, I told Penny we had a long way to go, so she packed breakfast muffins for you and that handsome boss of yours." Smith added.

"Thank you, oh and Smith, might you know where I can get black coffee at this hour?" I asked.

"Hold on to your socks then, I'll take you down to the coffee house and then to your office before you can spell Smith Franklin Longman the 16th," Smith said as we pulled out of the driveway.

After we got the coffee, Smith drove me to the temporary office, I waved him goodbye as I looked at my watch, it was 7:25 am, I was definitely on time. I greeted whoever I saw at the entrance on my way to the elevator, but I couldn't help but notice the hush side comments and whispers the people were giving me. Was something wrong? Was there something on my shirt?

I walked into the elevator and no one came in after me even though I was the only one and there was enough space, I didn't complain, it would only make things awkward after all. When the elevator dinged, I was on the 10th floor. The doors drew open only for me to find Liam already at his table working.

"Liam? You're here early." I said trying as much as possible not to sound flustered.

"No, you're late. Get out." He said not looking up from his table.

"What?"

"I asked you to be here before 7:30, you should have known that you're supposed to be here by 7 sharp, so you're fired," Liam said calmly.

"No, you told me to be here before 7:30 and this is 7:29, meaning I'm not late, rather you're too early," I said crossing my arms.

"Are you talking back at me miss Hudson?" Liam asked almost seductively.

"Well, you did say you needed someone who could take risks and had a backbone," I said walking over to his table.

"Well, you got both." I slammed the cup of coffee and muffins on his table and went back to my table to arrange my desk all while Liam watched me closely.

It was almost an hour since Liam had told me that I was fired, I had settled in comfortably and looked over and arranged the files that I met there. After that, I walked over to Liam who had quietly finished his weird coffee and the muffins Penny made.

"Shall we go over your schedule for today, that is if I'm not still fired?" I said standing in front of Liam.

He laughed slightly, just under his breath then he stood up and walked over to meet me at the other side of his desk, he sat in front of me with his hands folded.

"You, miss Hudson must be the boldest person alive to talk back at me after my Mom, even when your job's on the line. I've lost excellent candidates because they couldn't stand up for themselves." I didn't know if that was a compliment or some kind of threat.

"Tell me, miss Hudson, what makes you so different?" Liam asked.

"First, I'd like it if you'd also drop the formalities too. Please, call me Cyra." I said.

"Cyra."

"Yes, and I'm different because, at the end of the day, I'm the only person looking after me. I learnt that the hard was in the states." I said briefly, nobody wanted to hear the sad story of a teenage girl who went to another country with no support whatsoever from her family and lived alone for 8 years.

Liam nodded and went back to his seat behind the desk.

"For today you can just attend all the incoming calls, you'll only direct important and urgent calls to me, you'll handle the rest... Cyra." Liam said at the end.

I smiled at Liam, nodded and went back to my table.

"The muffins were delicious by the way," Liam added.

"I'll make sure to let the baker know," I said back as I opened up the computer in front of me.

Just then the elevator door dinged and a slender man with blond hair walked through calling out to Liam.

"Liam, you have a meeting by 9 am sharp, a shareholder meeting by 11:30, a lunch meeting by 1:15, a zoom meeting with investors from Hawaii by 2:30, your four and five are free, and by 6 you have a meeting with sponsors from Beijing and by 7:30 a dinner reservation at black suits hotel. And most importantly, when is that replacement coming, I can't head HR and be your assistant at the same time, it's tiring." The strange man said sitting in front of Liam.

"Thank you, Gomez. That's Cyra, my new secretary, she'll probably be taking over your job soon." Liam said calmly.

The man named Gomez looked at me as I stood up, he sized me from head to toe then he looked at his watch, then back at Liam.

"Her? But she looks so delicate. A word of advice dear, if you love your mental well-being then you should quit this job and run. I'm surprised you aren't even fired yet." Gomez said.

"I still have a lot to offer this company and I haven't even started yet, so I guess you're stuck with me. Right, Liam." I said with a smile.

Gomez looked at me with horror in his eyes like I had just done the unthinkable, he looked back at Liam who only nodded back at him. Gomez stood up and gave Liam one last look before storming towards me.

"You! With me! Now!" He said dragging me towards the elevator.

"Cute shoes, by the way, Prada? Nice." He said before the door shut close.

The whole ride down was awkward and silent as Gomez said nothing else after complimenting my shoes, when the elevator reached the fifth floor it made the same ding sound as the doors came open.

"Follow me," Gomez said at once.

I did as I was told, no questions asked, I followed him till will got to a glass see-through office, it wasn't as big as Liam's but it was spacious.

"Rosie, be a doll and get us two cups of tea. Thank you." Gomez said to a random lady before he walked into his office and I followed after.

"Have a seat." He said as he sat on one of the opposite sofas.

I did as I was told and waited for him to say something but her said nothing until about five minutes later when our coffee came.

"Thanks, Rosie, but you could be faster next time, good job though." Rosie nodded ferociously and walked away.

After that, we were back to having an awkward silence between us again and it was getting on my nerve.

"Er, Gomez right? I don't know if you know this but I have a job to get back to, it's my first day by the way." I said in the most polite way I could. Gomez looked at me before taking a sip from his cup of coffee.

"I'll say this once so listen very closely, quit this job and look for another one," Gomez said. I was taken aback by what he said that I couldn't say anything.

"Don't get me wrong, but you aren't fit for this kind of job," Gomez said taking another sip from his cup.

"And what makes you think that?" I snapped accidentally.

"Well the fact that you called our boss by his first name in front of me," Gomez said.

"You did the same thing." I protested.

"Look, sweetheart, I barely noticed you were in the room and besides, haven't you heard the rumours, Liam is going to eat you raw," Gomez said.

"It doesn't matter, I've gotten this job fair and square, I'll work here even if it kills me, rumour or not, I've already been fired once, I can be fired twice on the first day. I really appreciate the concern towards me but I think I'll be fine after I get the hang of things." Said snapping at Gomez again.

"What you're saying, you're sure, you're not just doing this because you have a devilishly handsome boss because if you can, then you should-"

"First, no! I have my own goal for working here, I'm not being stubborn because the boss is extremely handsome or whatever but because I also have something to offer this company and I'm not going to give up for something so trivial." I said standing up.

"Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a job to do," I said and was about to leave when I heard Gomez clap.

"Of all the girls I've had to chase out of this company, you're the most stubborn and you aren't even leaving. Welcome to Fovx Industries."
