Cassey opened her eyes when the door closed. Her eyes were filled with swirling emotions. She felt wounded by their actions. Like a needle that was stabbed hard and couldn't be removed no matter what she did.
She waited for a few minutes and then washed her face and walked out.
She went straight to the place where they were playing and stood in front of him. She realized that he did not like her presence with the way he was glowering at her.
"She must be hungry!" Cassey spoke softly, initiating a conversation when Tyrone scoffed, "I have asked the maid to bring cookies."
The word did the trick. The little girl let go of the arms of her father and asked her mother to carry her.
Tyrone followed with clenched jaws as he saw Penny enjoying the cookies and milk the maid was feeding her.
"She had settled well here." Cassey pointed in a soft voice much to Tyrone's surprise. He found himself nodding back instantly.
"But we both can't stay together. We have a lot of differences and you and your staff think I am a criminal." she could feel the cold aura instantly but she was not going to cower away this time. They needed to talk about it and sort it out.
"I am not blaming anyone. But I will not accept what I have not done. If we can not stay together, it is better that we take a divorce." she finally turned to look at him as she wanted to see his expressions when she said the next line, "you were searching for me to get a divorce right?"
She was sure that his eyes would flicker or he would flinch at least. But nothing happened, she only felt his eyes turning fiercer.
"I do not want to live in a toxic place, Tyrone. You hate me, your staff hate me, everyone hates me here." she sighed. She had thought that she would talk like adults this time, but tears still followed her.
"You can not take Penny away from me. If you want to leave and live on your own, I will not stop you anymore. Precious had learnt to stay without you anyway." his words were filled with pride.
She had already noticed her new clothes, toys and her admiration towards her father. She hardly comes looking for her mother these days.
"I will never do that!" she spat when he shrugged his shoulders.
"Then you are staying here. There is nothing to discuss about it anymore. I am not a heartless person to separate a mother from her child." He tried to stand up, but she held his hands and did not let him go.
"Let go!" he warned but she shook her head.
"Staying here as what? Do you still take me as your wife?" she could feel his body tensing as if it was on fire and his eyes turning darker.
He was staring at her lips but it did not look like he was listening to her anymore. She felt hurt too. She only tried to run away from him, because she did not want to end the remnants of their fairytale wedding. No! She never wanted to be a single mother but wanted to give a full family to her daughter.
"As my wife! You know well that divorce is not initiated. So what if they ask for it?" his voice turned so low that it left a spooky feeling on her skin. "I am ready to suffer until needed."
"Suffer! How long do you think that we both can live suffering like that?" She tried hard to not choke on his words and was still able to keep her calm in front of him.
"What are you suffering about?" he snapped and jerked her hands away, "you have maids here serving you all the time. You can rest and read all the time without worrying about a job. You have me to take care of our daughter. I have everything a woman desires and I am giving all of this to you in exchange for some time with my daughter." It felt like he was sacrificing everything while she was gaining a lot from the deal.
"Ha! Anyone can take this prize, I am not interested." she spoke with her own anger rising. "You want me to live with a man who hates me and does not make an effort to hide it. Maids who check my room and my belongings when I sleep and speak ill about me.
I can not live in this loveless marriage and suffocating house. I would rather live in a small house where I do all the work. We can share her by adjusting the timings."
He paused, and for a second she felt that the darkness in his eyes cracked. He looked shocked by her revelations but before she could be sure, he just mocked her.
"The only way you can leave this palace is to go to prison. I will not mind sending you there. So, choose wisely. Do you want to live here with this suffocating husband of yours or do you want to end up in prison and die soon?" he reminded her coldly with a look of contempt in his eyes.
"Really? For what accord? What proof did they hold and what proof do you hold against me? Or you are going to lie in front of the world just to get rid of me?" she asked back. She was never going to accept the crime she had not done when he laughed.
"You want proof! Very well, I will ask Damien to deliver them to you. Anything else that you want to fight for?"
"....." but she had done nothing! How could he have proof? The words churned her but she still nodded her head.
"That kiss.." it left her bewildered. She was sure it was desire but the way he left.
"You want me to kiss you again?" he asked when she flinched. "Or do you want me to make love with you? Hmmm? Do you want to have another child with me?" His voice sounds seductive, pleasant. She wanted him to apologize but the offer did not sound that bad.. He wrapped his arms around her and pulled her closer, "so that you can find another way to keep me under your palm?"
