Finding The Demon General

"There is no doubt that I love you," he replied. He had tried to run away from the fact, but failed miserably.

Holding her all night in his arms proved that.

"But my hatred for you runs deeper than that. And so is my responsibility towards my men, my land, and my staff. You have put their lives in danger, you have sold us all.

So, you do not deserve that love anymore." She flinched at the cold look in his eyes.

"You should be thankful that you live so leisurely here." He walked past her, insulting her once again.

While she sat in the room, cursing him. If he loved her so much, he should have trusted her. He should have looked for her and then asked for the truth. What kind of love did he have if he could not understand her?

"Mommy! I need water. Mommy!" her daughter's sweet voice woke her up.

Penny was kicking the duvet but the more she struggled, the more she was trapped in the large sheet.

Her face was red as she huffed and puffed and glared at the cloth as if it was her enemy.

"Mommy, hold me. I want water." the girl cried again, miserable when Cassey ran to her.

She laughed looking at her precious teary face. She took her out of the duvet and gave her a glass of water.

The little girl finally looked better. But she frowned again when she did not find her father in the room.

"Where is daddy?" she yelled and ran to the bathroom and balcony to look for him.

"Your father has work to do, Penny. Shall we go and take a walk in the garden?" she held the child closer, nursing her wounds by Penny's soft touch. But the cold glare of the maid did not make it any better.

She hummed songs as Penny ran when she saw a butterfly. Cassey walked a bit and then sat on the grass defeated. Tears fell from her eyes again.

She could not find Julia. The knights were determined to make her the culprit, and Tyrone did not trust her. She was back to where she started.

But there should be more! She had to read the article again to find clues.

"Penny, would you like to study from now on?" she asked the child who had returned with a flower in her tiny hands.

"Study?" Penny tilted her head as she tried to fix the flowers in her mother's hair.

"Mmm, reading. Shall we read some picture books first?" Penny nodded, though she was still not sure what her mother wanted her to do.

Cassey scooped Penny into her arms and took her to the library. The librarian was not happy to see Cassey back, but she did not say a word when she noticed the young child in her arms.

"Do we have picture books here for the child?" she asked softly.

The librarian smiled at the girl and nodded.

She walked down to the left aisle and pulled two books from the corner.

It contained pictures of fruits, vegetables and daily necessities.

"Thank you." Cassey placed the girl on the table and gave a book in her tiny hands.

"Penny, do you know what this is?" she asked when Penny noticed.

"It is an apple, mother."

"Alright, now what if this?"

"This is a man?"

"No! This is a boy. See, he is too young to be called a man?" Penny stared at the picture intensely but still could not find the difference

"Let it be." What is this?"

"A carriage. We used this to come here." Cassey nodded happily.

"And this." Soon the girl started to enjoy the picture game when Cassey stood up.

She looked for the same file and started reading the article again.

"The knights testified that the lady had left after beating them.

Then she met the demon army general in the black alley. She knew he visited the bar in the black alley every night already. That made everyone wonder, for how long she had been preparing to betray the empire.

Due to the bar's location on the border, the general enjoys mocking the empire. He enjoys the scared faces of the staff serving him.

But the lady must be able to meet him alone. Even asking for a reward is also part of her request. He accepted this in front of the Duke. Yet, the king remains silent about the matter."

"Is he trying to protect his wife or in cahoots with his wife?" she closed her eyes and cursed.

How in the world would she know a demon? There were rare demons who spoke like humans.

She was not sure what this demon general looked like. How in the world had she dealt with him?

These bunch of lies were so blatant. How in the world did they trust it and not hers!

But one thing was clear, if she wanted more proof. She had to find out this demon general and ask why he took her name?

But how? She was not allowed to leave the palace.

If she was caught again, Tyrone would put her in prison. He had already warned her so many times.

"Mommy. Mommy!" Cassey looked at her frowning daughter.

"What is this mommy?" Cassey looked at the book in the hands of Penny and her eyes narrowed.

"That is a cloak Penny. We wear it to cover her head during winter."

"Yes, but why is it sparkling?"

"Because it is a magical one, dear. If you wear this cloak, you will vanish and no one will be able to see you." the librarian interrupted.

She moved her hands and pictured it vividly for the girl who gasped.

"Mommy, I want the invisible cloak too." The girl cried but the librarian laughed.

"There are only two invisible cloaks in the empire, my lady. One is with the royal family and the other is with your father. You can ask him. I am sure he will let you use it."
