Seventy

As Sharon urged Mike to move faster towards their parent's bedroom, his conversation with Steve came rushing back. Sharon deserved to know what was happening in her life. She wouldn't understand the refusal to take their father to the hospital. Amelia was right behind them, blinking back tears from her eyes. She hated this whole situation.

When they arrived, his uncle lay on the bed, silent. Too silent. He wasn't coughing anymore. His aunt sat beside him, wiping his body with a towel as Amelia did to Mike. At that moment, Amelia could understand a bit of her feeling. If it were Mike on this bed, she would do anything to make him feel better. Mike stood in front of his uncle. His eyes weren't closed, but they were barely opened. He stared briefly before declaring they were going to the hospital.

His uncle couldn't refuse as he couldn't talk, and his aunt was glad someone was finally doing something. She didn't want to disobey her husband but wanted to save him.
