In the middle of the night, a faint glimmer of moonlight beamed through a space filled with smoke. Jack stood before a photo frame with a cigarette on his lips. His eyes were full of hate. It was a picture containing his mother and father with him. It was the last family Photo before the storm.

Upon remembering that incident, Jack's face turned pale. He hurried to the restroom and vomited on the toilet. He shut his eyes out of desperation.

He had been living his life thinking he solely needed to learn how to manage their family business. His thought process was simple. By doing that, his father could be freer to return home and spend more time with them. Then his mother wouldn't be alone and depressed. ' Ah, totally simple-minded.'

Two years ago, after receiving news that his father was stuck in the mining field for more days, he threw a surprise party for his mother to cheer her up.

He returned secretly to the house and went to his mother's room to take photos of her perfume and jewellery. He wanted to present one similar to his father's old gifts to her to conceal his father's neglect. He was sure his father had forgotten her birthday again. He was at the end of his task when he heard voices on the outside.

He panicked and crawled into a closet. His mom opened the door laughing. Jack was startled. 'Could she laugh that way? So how come she was this gloomy every time she stood before me?'

He recovered from his stupor when he heard the other voice.

" Oh, love, don't be impatient. I'm going to send you to heaven soon."

Jack looked outside of the closet from a hole in the door. He was shocked. 'Isn't this Liam's dad? What the hell are they doing? '

He was a teenage boy, so he wasn't a stranger to sex, but witnessing his mother suck other men's penis and make lewd noises was the epitome of brutality and gut-wrenching for a son.

" you like it hard, don't you?"

The man forced himself into his mother's mouth and throat while vigorously seizing her hair. It began a series of cruel and brutal couplings that scared the hell out of Jack. He didn't know when he started to cry. His gorgeous mother has become a figure of utter disarray. After God knows how long, it became quiet. By the time he got out, there was no light in the house.

That night, the shocking event made him break into a high fever which caused delusions and nightmares about his mother. But what broke the camel's back was overhearing a conversation outside his bedroom the next day.

"When Jack recovers, I will talk to his father about divorce. I don't want to raise our child in this home or this environment."

" what about Jack? Do you have any intention of bringing him along?"

"Have you gone mad? Of course not. He's going to be better off here."

"but I can't leave Liam alone with his mom."

"It's all right, darling. I'm so fond of him. He will make a good older brother to our child."

Voices died out as Jack's heart became frozen.

He rose from his bed. He found his cell phone and texted Liam.

"Make your way to our apartment downtown."

He quietly changed clothes and snuck out of the house.

Liam opened the door with great enthusiasm. "Here you are, come in; I brought your favourite dessert from this new famous café."

Jack casually approached Liam. In his head, there were repetitive phrases. 'Which part of him is better than me? Why did my mother choose Liam, not me?'

The jealousy he felt toward Liam slowly devoured him from the inside.

Liam failed to notice the lack of response on his part. He was blabbing about this new shop when suddenly his vision went upside down. He found himself lying on the couch as Jack clutched his shoulders with great force.

He saw Jack's face before him as the alarm went off in his mind. ' Has he found out about them?'

Today, He tried his best not to show something was amiss. But maybe he went over the top with his talking.

Jack stared down at the boy. Fear in his eyes had angered him. 'Are you scared of me this much? Are you abandoning me too?'

The last string of his sanity broke with a snap in his head. He wouldn't let him walk out of his life. None of them was allowed to leave him and have a happy life. His mind slowly got twisted.

Liam was drenched in a cold sweat. This morning, he learned from his father about the affair and the baby. Throughout his father's talk, he focused only on one thing. What would happen to Jack? They backstabbed him, didn't they? He welcomed them to his home, but what did they do?

He wanted to hit his father in the face. How could he destroy Jack's family like it was no big deal?

They were different. Their family was a lost cause. Throughout the year, His mother was constantly admitted to the psychiatric hospital. On the other hand, his father was busy going to pubs and clubs. They weren't a happy family, but Jack's home was different. His parents didn't have a conflict with each other. Also, He loved Jack's mother. The kindness and sweetness he received from her were different from his mother's.

The guilt he felt toward Jack was so massive that if now he beat him black and blue, he wouldn't utter a word of protest. He closed his eyes nervously and waited for his punch.

Jack saw the shift in Liam's behaviour and figured out he probably knew about the affair too. He released him from his grip and went to his room disheartened.
