Chapter 44: The Rumor Mill

The moment that Colette stepped foot into the Sanguine Court, it was like the world went still. She could feel prying eyes gazing at herself and Nora, and she didn’t like it one bit.

All the same, she held her head high and walked into the wing of the building that oversaw internal affairs, asking for the directory.

The secretary there gave her a heavy book full of names and numbers, and she scanned the page for Cheong Haneul’s name. Of course, it wasn’t there. Why would it be?

“Thank you,” she said with a sigh, closing the book. She did notice something, though – there, at the top of the registry, was her own name.

Arienne Villeneuve, written in scarlet ink, flourished with looping letters. She hadn’t put the information in, so who had?

“Excuse me?” she requested. “Who filled my information in for me?”

“A young woman came by and did it. She said she was your spouse.”

Colette and Nora looked at each other.

“That’s impossible. Nora and I were with each other all day.”
