Chapter 114: Jax: Trying to Cope

"I'll behave," I said, my tone sarcastic yet genuine. "But you have to do this, Isach. It's our only shot."

He nodded again. "I know. Okay." He stretched his back and straightened to his full height. "We'll get packed and leave today."

Relief swamped me, and the tension evaporated from my body, leaving my muscles weak and rubbery. I slouched down onto the couch, propped my elbows on my knees, and dropped my head into my hands.

Around me, people moved and spoke in hushed tones. I didn't have the energy or desire to pay much attention. All I could think about was Isach making it to that meeting on time, to what the outcome would be. If he couldn't get onto the royal coven. . . I shoved that thought away. I couldn't think like that, not if I had any hope of holding my emotions in check.

"I'll text you as soon as we arrive," Isach said.

I glanced over to find him seated next to me on the couch. I nodded.

"And the moment I know when the meeting is, I'll send word, too."
