I swallowed hard and nodded. I wasn't nervous about my decision to spy on my parents and report back to Sophie, her sisters, and Isach, but I was scared my father would see through my lies. He wasn't stupid, and he hadn't managed to rise to power - and stay there - by blindly trusting people, his own family included. I needed to be very careful not to blow my cover, but I was more determined than ever to do this for Sophie.
"In the meantime, I'm going to go home," Isach said, his tone weary.
"You're leaving?" Peyton whipped around to stare at him. "Now? Why?"
"Because I want to see my wife," he snapped, then frowned. "And I need to let everyone know what's going on. This isn't just your sister's safety we're dealing with here. This is Jax's life. He's got family, too."
"Of course," Sophie said with a sympathetic smile. "I'm sure Trent and Chloe are worried sick. They need to know what's going on."
