I sat on the couch inside Jax's house, hands tucked beneath my legs. I stared straight ahead, my gaze unfocused. The massive spike of adrenaline that had kept me going earlier was now gone. My dragon was sound asleep inside of me, and I was completely numb, unable to fully comprehend what had happened. What I'd done.
Jax draped a blanket around my shoulders and sat beside me, head hung. Neither of us had really spoken all that much since we'd left the woods surrounding the Draven Coven castle. What was there to say? I mean, there was a lot we needed to say, a lot we needed to figure out, but no words would fix our situation.
"Are you alright?" he asked, his voice low and compassionate.
I shook my head, knowing I couldn't speak and keep my composure.
