Chapter 119: Jean Grey

Jean's stuttered voice brought Jack back to his senses, and he felt bad for scaring her.

"This is New York, but not the New York you're thinking of. Would you like to come in and talk about it?"

Jean was hesitant at first, but she felt a strange sense of comfort and familiarity from Jack that she had never gotten from the Professor. She even found that she didn't mind sharing a room with him at all.

So, she nodded and agreed to come in.

Five minutes later, Jean sat in the living room, in a daze sipping hot cocoa, while Jack frowned across from her, looking puzzled.

"Do you remember how you got here?"

Jean looked up at him, her brows frowning as she tried to remember what had happened before she got there.

"I...I don't know. I remember getting ready to read by the lake like I usually do, but suddenly everything went blurry, and I found myself here, on the lawn outside."

"Is this New York? It feels different somehow."

Jack looked at Jean for a moment, relaxing his thoughts before he spoke.

"Well, you see...this is indeed New York, but not the one you know. This is the New York of 2005, a different universe where there is no school for Mutants here. This is a parallel universe, do you understand?"

It's no wonder that Jack has to be cautious, as the destructive power of the girl in front of him is too powerful.

She killed Apocalypse, who was thought to be the ancestor of mutants. As the host of the Phoenix Force, her power that can randomly explode is definitely enough to make even Odin himself scared.

She can't control the power of the Phoenix Force within her.

And this is exactly the reason why Jack is worried. If the Phoenix Force explodes under emotion, I'm afraid it will be another disaster.

Sure enough, after listening to Jack's information, Jean's thin body trembled, and a look of surprise appeared on her face. Obviously, she didn't expect to travel to a parallel universe.

And even worse, she may not be able to go back.

It was difficult to accept this result for a while, and the power within her body slowly lost control.

As soon as Jack finished speaking, he felt a strange energy absorbing in him. Then he found that everything in the living room was slowly floating up, and the piano in the corner of the wall was even more than three meters high and almost reached the ceiling.

"Calm down, Calm down, Jean, you can still go back. You can still go back."

Jack was in a hurry, so he could only do his best to make her calm.

He doesn't really know if she can go back or not.

"Really?"

Jean looked at him hopefully, "Can I really go back?"

"Of course... it's true."

Even though Jack wasn't sure himself, he still made a promise. Anyway, he had to calm her down first and then find someone more expert about this.

Half an hour later, at the Sanctum Sanctorum, inside the building.

"I don't want to bother you, Ancient One, but... you saw it too."

Jack smiled awkwardly at the Ancient One, feeling a little embarrassed about always bothering him.

He left Jean in the car and came to see the Ancient One alone, fearing that the Ancient One would just tell him that there was nothing she could do, which would be disastrous.

"I understand, in fact, I sensed her coming myself."

The Ancient One smiled casually and didn't feel bothered at all, looking somewhat strangely at him. "But, I didn't expect her to come looking for you."

"She just showed up at my front door, but that's not the point," Jack said impatiently.

"What's important is whether she can go back to her universe," he added.

"Theoretically, she can," the Ancient One said.

"Theoretically? What about the fact?" Jack asked.

Taking a sip from her teacup, the Ancient One said slowly, "In fact, it might not be that easy."

"What do you mean?" Jack frowned.

The Ancient One always spoke in such a mysterious way that made her seem wise, but in reality, she was just pretending.

"There are two main reasons why Jean can travel through a parallel universe," the Ancient One continued, sighing. "First, the multiverse has been very unstable lately. The multiversal war you mentioned has already begun, but the fighting hasn't spread yet. However, some timelines have already merged. Sometimes, the barriers between two universes can weaken, letting some people cross over to a parallel universe. This happens all the time."

"Secondly, the Phoenix Force inside Jean's body is playing tricks. Traveling through a parallel universe is not that easy. Jean wouldn't be able to meet the requirement for going to the multiverse without the help of the Phoenix force."

"So if Jean wants to go home, she will have to find another weak point where two universes merge. At that time, the Phoenix Force will sense it and automatically return to its own universe."

"But remember, converging two timelines won't last too long, so you have to act fast," the Ancient One added. "From my observation, you probably have about a month."

Jack furrowed his brows. The conditions for sending Jean back were too short, and he had to seize the opportunity, otherwise, he might not get another chance.

"Where is the next converging point?" he asked.

"That's not something you should ask me but yourself," the Ancient One replied. "In terms of space, you are an expert yourself."

When Jack realized this, he stood up, eager to find the converging point and send Jean back.

The Ancient One didn't stop him and just watched Jack leave with a strange expression.

At this moment, the Ancient One's disciple, Mordo, walked in and respectfully said, "Master, we're ready. We can connect with the Sanctum Sanctorum in another universe at any time."

"Let's...put it on hold for now," the Ancient One said after some thought, patting Mordo's shoulder. "Someone else will handle this. Take a break and relax."

"Ah?"

Mordo looked confusedly at the Ancient One, not understanding why she had changed her mind.

But since her Master had ordered it, he would do as he was told.

On the other side, Jack walked out of the Sanctum Sanctorum and headed straight for a Porsche parked on the side of the road.

"How's it going?"

Jean was anxiously waiting in the passenger seat. When Jack got into the car, she couldn't wait to ask.

"Good news, you have a chance to go back, but it won't be easy. I need to prepare first."

Jack fastened his seat belt and started the car. "You can stay at my place for now, and when I find a way to send you back, you can go home."

When Jean heard this, she should have been happy. But she felt something strange in her chest, and her smile vanished.

Not only didn't Jack notice, but Jean didn't either. She thought she was just too happy.
