Chapter 161: Peak

Jack spent over two hours in the building, chatting with Peggy.

Mostly, they talked about what had happened during his absence, such as events after World War II.

As people grow old, they manage to reminisce about the past, and Peggy is no exception. It was mostly her doing the talking.

She talked about a lot of things, from the establishment of S.H.I.E.L.D. to Howard's sudden passing.

So much had happened in the meantime.

The deaths of Howard and his wife in a car accident devastated Peggy for quite some time.

Colonel Phillips, on the other hand, passed away peacefully, but unfortunately, he didn't live to see the day when Jack returned.

Some of their other Howling Commandos comrades had also passed away, one after another. Bucky, due to his disappearance, was an unknown case.

But Peggy revealed that she had once found out about Bucky's whereabouts, suggesting that he might still be alive.

Jack had no doubt about this. Hydra had taken great measures to capture Bucky alive, not kill him.

The energy of old age is limited, and now Peggy is suffering from different age-related illnesses. Her energy was even weaker than before, and as they chatted, she couldn't hold on any longer and fell asleep.

Jack looked at the elderly Peggy and let out a slight sigh.

There was a time when she was a spirited and lovely person, captivating even Captain America. But now, she was just an old woman in a state of decline.

Activating his X-ray vision, Jack could see the condition inside Peggy's body clearly.

Her health was in a terrible state. Not only was she tormented by different age-related illnesses, but the most dangerous thing was that her brain had also deteriorated seriously.

There was a high possibility of conditions like dementia and amnesia.

Jack couldn't bear to see his old friend suffer from illness, so he quickly manipulated his wrist and a syringe appeared in his hand.

Without a word, he lifted Peggy's arm and gently pressed the syringe against her skin.

With a press of a button, the needle pierced her skin instantly, and a colorless, transparent liquid was rapidly injected into Peggy's body.

After the injection was completed, Jack removed the syringe and looked at Peggy's arm without making any further movements.

In the time it took to take a breath, the wrinkled skin on Peggy's arm suddenly changed.

Starting from the injection spot, the aged and sagging skin slowly regained energy, becoming strong, tight, and bright!

Even the skin of an ordinary twenty-year-old girl couldn't reach this level.

Seeing this scene, Jack smiled, let go of her hand, and turned to leave.

But even after he left, the transformation didn't stop. It continued throughout Peggy's entire body, affecting every part...

At the entrance of the building, Jack breathed in the fresh air, let out a sigh, and whispered, "Consider it... a wedding gift."

What he injected Peggy with was just a small technology from studying Wolverine's genes by, the Red Queen. Its function was quite simple: to restore a person's body to its peak state.

Originally, it had no use to him, and Jack and the people around him did not need for it. However, today it came in handy when he saw Peggy.

Brmmmm!

A sudden sound behind him caught Jack's slight attention. Natasha, chewing gum, leaned against the car, her seductive eyes curiously watching him.

"You're not leaving yet?"

Jack was somewhat surprised. He thought Natasha would have already gone back, considering the amount of time he had spent there.

"The boss didn't ask me to do anything else, just to wait for you!"

Natasha got off the car, opened the door, and said, "Seems like you had a good chat with Peggy?"

"Yes, old friends who haven't seen each other in decades, we talked for a while."

"I can understand. So, where do you want to go next?"

Jack lowered his head, pondered for a moment, and then looked up, asking, "Do you have a recovery ship? In the Arctic Circle area."

"???"

Natasha didn't understand what Jack meant, but the next moment, she found out.

Her vision blurred, and a cold chill enveloped her body before she could figure out what was happening.

The freezing cold penetrated her bones instantly, causing even someone as strong as Natasha to shudder uncontrollably.

If it weren't for the clothes she was wearing that had some resistance to the cold, she would have been frozen to death in an instant.

"Sorry, I forgot about that."

Seeing Natasha shivering from the cold, Jack awkwardly smiled, waved his hand, and created an energy barrier that enveloped Natasha, separating her from the freezing temperature outside.

Now Natasha finally felt warmth again. She couldn't help but complain to Jack, "Could you please let me know what you're going to do next time before doing it! I almost got... frozen..."

Before she could finish her sentence, the huge white glacier and snowfield in front of her left Natasha speechless...

Connecting it to what Jack had said before, she instantly realized where they were!

"Why did you come to the Arctic?! What for?!"

Now she was even more annoyed.

'What kind of joke was this? He just brought her to the Arctic like that? Did he even ask for her permission?'

"To find someone."

Jack stared at the icy surface he had set foot on, his gaze penetrating through hundreds of meters of thick ice, sweeping around in circles until he finally found what he was looking for!

An airplane!

A World War II plane trapped within hundreds of meters of thick ice!

"What are you looking at?"

Natasha followed Jack's gaze but couldn't see anything.

Jack withdrew his gaze and looked at her.

"Do you remember what I asked you? Get the nearest recovery ship to come here immediately. I don't want to carry a big block of ice back with me."

"What do you mean?"

Natasha couldn't understand what Jack was trying to say, but she remembered Fury's instructions to fulfill his requests as much as possible.

With that in mind, she took out her specialized communication device from S.H.I.E.L.D., luckily, there was a signal here.

She directly sent the situation to Nick, as permitting the mobilization of S.H.I.E.L.D. ships would require his approval.

At S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters, Fury, who received Natasha's message, was assigning personnel to Coulson.

He couldn't immediately get what was happening, but soon it clicked on him!

The Arctic Circle?

Under the ice?

These two pieces of information were simple, and ordinary people wouldn't figure out much from them, but Nick was not an ordinary person.

Connecting it to Jack's identity and the recently seen Peggy Carter.

Glancing at Coulson, who was standing ready on the other side, a name quietly appeared in Fury's mind.

Could it be...

Thinking of that possibility, Nick couldn't care about keeping his calm.

He picked up the top-secret phone on his desk and quickly made a call, dispatching the nearest S.H.I.E.L.D. ship to the location.

Only after doing all this did he turn to Coulson.

"Coulson, you don't need to go. I'll have Barton handle it. You'll have a different assignment, Coulson."

"???"

...

Returning to the Arctic.

Jack brought Natasha to a frozen cover. He instructed her to stand aside while he flew dozens of meters into the sky, looking down at the ice below and activating his heat vision!

Two beams of ordinary-looking but incredibly sharp heat vision quickly cut out the shape of an airplane on the ice surface.

Natasha watched the entire process and could still determine what was happening.

She seemed to have guessed something and looked at him with a puzzled expression.

"Well then."

In the next moment, Jack disappeared. Before Natasha could react, a sudden earthquake shook the ground, and then she witnessed an incredibly shocking scene.

A massive block of ice quickly went up from the sea, carrying a large amount of burning hot water and shattered ice.

When a huge ice stick, reaching hundreds of meters high, was pulled out, Natasha's mouth was wide.

And at the bottom of this massive ice stick, an airplane was faintly visible.
