Chapter 190: Trouble Again

Jack immediately thought of Pietro's prank but quickly dismissed the possibility.

Although he was weak at the moment, he was still aware enough to detect someone approaching him.

Could it really be the woman from his dream who gave it to him?

There seemed to be no other explanation.

But... how could that be possible?

A shadow of unease fell over Jack's heart. He felt that something important had happened, something he didn't know.

Click!

The sound of a door unlocking came from the entrance, and Wanda, Pietro, and Chloe entered the room.

The siblings seemed to be arguing about something, with Wanda doing most of the talking and sometimes shutting Pietro up.

"...You should show some control! Many people today..."

Wanda turned around in the middle of what she was saying and saw Jack sitting on the couch. Her face lit up with happiness.

She abandoned Pietro and rushed towards him.

"Jack."

Jack discreetly hid the necklace in his pocket and awkwardly reached out to catch Wanda.

Jack felt somewhat relieved when remembering the other version of Wanda he had seen before.

Ah, my Wanda.

It must be said that girls have a very keen sense. Just as Wanda hugged him, she noticed something was off.

"Jack, what's wrong with you?"

She pulled her head away from Jack's hug and carefully looked at the color of his face.

She noticed that he looked pale and exhausted.

She quickly got up, grabbed his hand, and looked at him with concern in her eyes.

"It's nothing, I'm fine, really."

Jack forced a smile and gently stroked Wanda's face to let her know he was fine.

However, Wanda wasn't easily fooled.

She turned to Chloe and said, "Chloe, scan Jack's body."

Chloe's speed was incredible.

It was almost the next second when she finished scanning Jack's physical condition, and he couldn't stop her.

Chloe's eyes flickered, and she spoke, "His body doesn't have any injuries, but he is weak and needs good rest and food. I'll prepare some healthy food for him."

After speaking, Chloe put down her backpack and walked into the kitchen to prepare food, with Pietro following to help.

Only Jack and Wanda remained in the living room.

Hearing Chloe's diagnosis, both Jack and Wanda breathed a sigh of relief.

Wanda was relieved that Jack was okay.

On the other hand, Jack was relieved because his condition was much more serious than Chloe's diagnosis.

Luckily, her scanner couldn't scan deeper data. Otherwise...

"See, I'm fine, really."

"What happened to you?"

Wanda was worried.

She was afraid that Jack would go through something like this again, and she might not be able to handle it next time.

"Oh, speaking of that, it's complicated. But in the end, everything was resolved."

Jack comfortably lay on the couch, holding Wanda in his arms, sighing, "The important thing is that I'm fine, isn't it?"

"Maybe, but next time something like this happens, you have to take me with you."

Wanda's tone made it impossible for Jack to say no. Otherwise, she would be worried again.

"Okay, I'll take you with me. I promise."

...

On the other side, in a distant universe, on the same Earth.

In the late hours of the night, in an apartment building, a sweet-looking girl with shoulder-length blonde hair was fast asleep.

The girl seemed to be having a nightmare, her eyebrows furrowed, drips of sweat forming on her forehead.

"Ah!"

The girl jumped out of bed and gasped for air as she sat up quickly. There was no doubt that the dream had scared her.

She looked around, recognizing her familiar bedroom, which meant she was at home.

Feeling a bit relieved, she tried to make sense of the dream that had just disturbed her, but she couldn't figure it out.

"Who was that man?"

Thinking of the man in her dream, she instinctively reached for her neck, only to find it empty.

Realizing something, she hurriedly looked around the bed, searching for it.

After a moment of looking around without finding anything, the girl fell back on the bed.

"My necklace... it's gone!"

...

Jack looked at the bowl of ginseng chicken soup that was placed in front of him with a strange expression.

The ginseng was a special product from Ta-Lo, brought by a friend recently.

One of them was a thousand-year-old ginseng root as thick as a baby's arm.

He didn't really need it for himself.

He had thought about getting some to help Wanda and Pietro with their health. But he didn't expect to use it himself so soon.

However...

Jack looked up and saw the whole root of the thousand-year-old ginseng king soaking in the dragon teapot.

Jack picked up the soup, slowly savoring the ginseng chicken soup he could only drink.

"Mmm, it tastes really good."

Seeing Jack drinking the soup, Wanda looked at him expectantly.

"Yeah, it's delicious."

Jack didn't want to disappoint Wanda. He couldn't say that besides the taste of ginseng, he couldn't taste anything else.

"That's great. Then drink it all."

She pushed the teapot closer to Jack and filled his bowl again as if afraid he wouldn't have enough to eat.

"..."

He dug his own grave.

Just as Jack was about to finish the bowl in one gulp, the doorbell rang.

He quickly stood up, ran to the door, and opened it.

"Hmm? Coulson?"

Seeing Phil Coulson, Jack was stunned. He glanced behind him to make sure there was no one else and then stepped aside to let him in.

"What brings you here? We're having dinner. Would you like to join us?"

"No, thank you, Mr. Wayne."

Phil politely declined Jack's invitation and then spoke seriously, "I came here on assignment to deliver a message. We will take care of the situation in the school ourselves, so please don't worry."

"The school ?"

Jack's heart skipped a beat, but he didn't show any reaction on the surface.

"Yes, the Director said that if there are any similar issues in the future, you can come to us. S.H.I.E.L.D. is more than willing to help."

"...Alright, thank you."

Phil didn't stay long, leaving behind an invitation card for Jack before leaving.

He came mainly to deliver a message and happened to bring the invitation card.

Steve and Peggy were getting married in a few days, and Jack couldn't afford to miss it.

After Phil left, Jack closed the door and looked at the two siblings, who were pretending to be ostriches.

He helplessly asked, "Alright, tell me, who caused trouble again?"

Hmm? Why did I say 'again'?
