Chapter 276: Love

Night, apartment.

"Place your fingers here, don't use your nails, use the pads of your fingers to grip."

"Don't use too much force, it's weak, ah, careful..."

"Beginners should hold it in the middle. Once you are good, you can lift it a little bit."

...

"This is so difficult."

Kara's face turned red as she awkwardly held the chopsticks with hard fingers.

Under the table, in the trash can, there were a dozen pairs of chopsticks that had bravely given up their lives.

Who would have thought two thin wooden sticks could be so hard to handle?

Kara could not help but respect the people on the other side of the ocean who could use such complicated utensils.

"Yes, like that."

Jack stood behind Kara, teaching her how to use chopsticks step by step.

Tonight, he prepared a table of Chinese cuisine, and eating Chinese food wouldn't be the same without chopsticks.

Kara showed great interest in learning how to use chopsticks. She believed that two small wooden sticks couldn't beat her.

However, she was wrong.

Either her posture was incorrect, and she couldn't pick up the food, or she applied too much force and snapped the chopsticks in half.

Fortunately, Jack knew this would happen, so he bought a lot of them and was able to replace them quickly.

Even though the process was hard, the benefits were huge.

With great care, Kara picked up a piece of braised pork with chopsticks. It looked and smelled so good that she could not wait to try it.

She knew she could not hurry. She moved the food slowly and steadily toward her bowl until the meat finally dropped.

She could not hold back, so she took a big bite. The taste of the rich, melt-in-your-mouth braised pork burst into her mouth.

"Mmm~"

Kara couldn't help curl her neck and hum like a little kitten, her face filled with pure enjoyment.

"How does it taste?"

Jack looked at her with a relaxed expression, and his eyes were full of love.

"Absolutely! Absolutely! Delicious!"

Kara repeated "absolutely" three times to express her joy. With her chopsticks still in hand, she quickly tasted the other dishes.

She found out that these Chinese meals, which seemed simple, were actually very tasty. It was something she hadn't experienced in over twenty years.

While Kara savored the food, Jack watched her without eating. He had some questions he wanted to ask but didn't know how to bring up the topic.

"Hmm? Why aren't you eating?"

Kara noticed this and stopped eating, looking at Jack with curiosity.

After thinking in his mind, Jack cautiously asked,

"Kara, do you remember how we met?"

"Why are you suddenly asking that?"

Kara swallowed the food in her mouth and looked puzzled.

"We've only known each other for less than a week. Have you already forgotten?"

"Um... no, I haven't."

Jack's smile froze, and he scratched his face awkwardly before speaking seriously,

"Actually, the reason I went there that day was to find someone, or rather, the owner of a necklace."

Snap!

As soon as he finished speaking, Kara's chopsticks broke. She looked up at Jack with panic but pretended to remain calm and didn't say anything.

Kara had tried to avoid this question on purpose.

She didn't want to ask Jack why her mother's necklace ended up in his hands because, as Alex had mentioned, the answer might not be what she wanted to hear.

And now, Jack brought it up himself, which made Kara feel a slight unease.

"At first, I didn't know whose necklace it was. It just appeared in my hands out of nowhere."

Jack's eyes started to look farther away as he thought about the past. His voice got deeper, with a hint of sadness that was hard to hear.

"I only remember that I had a dream—a dream about a girl. I didn't know who she was, but I felt like she was... important to me."

"We met in a strange city where only the two of us existed. Suddenly, the city started collapsing, and we were trapped in two different places."

"In the very end, she threw her necklace to me, and when I woke up, it was in my hands."

Jack looked at Kara, locking his gaze with hers.

"The reason I was there that day was because my intuition told me that I could find the owner of that necklace there. And then, I met you!"

Kara looked back at Jack. At first, her face was full of worry, but then she understood it.

She thought about the night the necklace was lost and her dream. In her dream, there was a boy too.

In the dream, she gave away her own necklace. Even Kara herself didn't know why she did it, but one thing was sure—it might not just be a dream.

They looked at each other, they could only see each other in their eyes.

At that moment, time seemed to stop, and they could not take their eyes off each other.

After a while, a hint of relief appeared on Kara's face.

"It's... you?"

"It's me. I've come to find you, Kara."

They confirmed each other with simple words, which seemed a little too fast.

But that's... love.

Sometimes, with just one look, you know if it's the right person.

Everything falls into place.

This night was destined to be sleepless.

This night, Jack's newly bought house became empty.

The next day, early in the morning.

Kara had been tired all night, so she blinked her eyes and stared at the familiar ceiling with a blank mind.

"Oh, right, last night..."

In an instant, as her brain woke up, memories of the crazy and passionate night flooded back. Kara couldn't help but feel a blush of embarrassment.

Kara forced herself to get out of bed when she saw that she was the only one in the room.

But all of a sudden, her arms and legs gave out, and she fell back down.

A cute flush appeared on her pretty face as she thought about her physical condition. It was no wonder she felt sore all over, given last night's heat.

Click.

At the moment the door was twisted open, Kara quickly pulled the blanket over her head.

"Hehe."

Seeing Kara in her ostrich-like state, Jack couldn't help but smile and shake his head.

He walked slowly to the edge of the bed, leaned against the headboard, and spoke quietly to Kara as he leaned over her.

"If you don't get up soon, you'll be late for work."

"Work?!"

As soon as she heard the word "late," Kara's whole body jolted, and her mind instantly returned to reality.

She jumped out from under the blanket without even considering that Jack was still there.

"I have to hurry! Otherwise, Miss Grant will be angry again."

Kara was so hurried that she did not even notice she was running out from under the blanket without any clothes on.

The result was a flash of light that made Jack's eyes hurt.

But just as Kara's feet touched the ground, she again lost her strength and fell to the side, just like before.

Jack quickly grabbed Kara and held her in his arms while speaking in her ear, "I've already arranged for you to take the day off, We have plenty of time."

Kara lifted her head in his embrace, looking at him with a dazed expression.

"Time? What time?"

As soon as the words left her mouth, Kara seemed to instantly understand the meaning behind them, and her face immediately changed.
