Ch 7: Filming Halloween - Part 1

[1st Person POV, Oliver]

{28th June, 2007}

I had been discussing with Benjamin for the past few weeks about the movie.

I had asked him about which type of camera I should get, aswell as how many.

"Will the actors be free? We need to complete the shoot before August, as you wanted." Benjamin asked over the phone.

"Yep. I've asked all of them, and they said they didn't have much else to do, except for the child who'llbe playing the yound Michael. So we can shoot it chronologically." I replied.

I was currently eating my breakfast, which is earlier than I normally do.

"That's good. Then, we'll do the the intro last."

"Sounds good  to me." I said with a stuffed mouth.

"Anyways, I'll see you at the shooting location."

"Yep. Later." I cut the call and quickly finished my food before getting ready to leave.

Today was the day we will start shooting.

"Finally." I though while changing my clothes.

I was wearing some smart, but casual looking clothes. If I could, I would've worn a jacket or maybe something more formal, but the heat was too much for that.

Getting out of my apartment, I rode a taxi to South Pasadena. That and Alhambra were going to be the primary shooting locations.

This was also the place where the original Halloween was shot, too. So, it was perfect for me.

As they say, If something isn't broken, then why fix it?

However, the problem is the lack of pumpkins. It's currently June, so pumpkins are hard to find. I had to search a lot before I was able to buy a few, and they cost a lot too.

That brings me onto the costs. I have hired costume designers, and they cost a lot too. The actors will be wearing their own clothes so as to keep the  costs down.

I also rented a car in which Michael will stalk Laurie and Tommy. I borrowed one from Uncle David, and asked Benjamin to bring his own car, while also renting some more.

It's very cheap of me, but I can't help it, can I?

As I was thinking all this, I arrived at my location.

I paid the driver and got off the taxi.

Walking to a café, I saw the crew waiting.

The first to notice me was Benjamin, and he walked towards me.

"Ah, there you are!" He exclaimed enthusiastically and brought me into a hug.

I returned the hug, and asked. "I'm not too late, right?"

"Nah, everyone arrived here just a couple of minutes ago myself. Even if you were late, it's only by a few minutes. "

"Alright, then let's start the shoot."

I walked towards the camera crew.

"Take out the equipment. We'll start soon." I ordered as politely as I could.

I turned to the actors.

"You guys can rehearse till then." They nodded.

I then saw a huge person walking towards our group. Someone who I had been patiently waiting for.

"Aha! There you are." I walked to the giant hulking man and brought forward my hand.

He returned the handshake. "It's nice to be finally working with you." He said with a smile.

Oh right, his name was James Griffin, a bodybuilder. He will be the one taking the role of Michael Myers.

"You should get changed into Michael's outfit."

 "Yep, sure will."

I gazed around for a little while.

I had asked the locals to be the extras, and they gladly accepted

Benjamin walked towards me and said. "So, what scene will you do first? Excluding the intro, of course."

"Well, we can't shoot in the rain. So the scene where Michael steals Dr. Samuel's car is gone. I'll have to get a set for that. So, we'll start with the opening shot of Haddonfield."

"Alright, I'll get the cameras set up." Benjamin started to walk away.

"I'll help too." And I followed after him.

[3rd Person POV]

The cameras had been set up in no time thanks to actors helping as well. The opening shot had been taken too.

Oliver was currently explaining to Emily and the actor playing Laurie's father about the scene.

"When I say action, you count till 10 and then come out of the house and you stop her to give her the key to the Myers house. Got it?" Oliver asked.

"Yes." Both of them replied.

"Okay, get in the house." Oliver returned to the director's chair and sat down on it.

"Quiet everybody! Roll cameras... and action!" Shouted Oliver.

The camera slowly moved to the front door of the house. As it reached the front, the door opened and Laurie Strode walked out and closed the door behind her.

Walking on the sidewalks while looking here and there, the door to her house opened.

"Don't forget to drop the key off at the Myers place." Said Laurie's father.

"I won't." Replied Laurie.

"They're coming by to look at the house at 10:30. Be sure to leave it under the mat."

"I promise!" Laurie said as she took a right turn, while her father got into the car and drove away.

"And cut!" Oliver shouted.

He started checking the footage, and found it satisfactory. This was a pretty easy scene, so Oliver wasn't surprised that it only took them 1 take.

"Alright, we'll move on to the next scene."

"No re-take?" Asked Benjamin, a little confused.

"There's no need for a re-take. It's good enough." Replied Oliver confidently.

Benjamin just shrugged and started moving the camera for the next scene, which was going to be quite long.

As soon as the camera was set up properly, Oliver started filming.

"Quiet everybody! Roll camera... and action!"

The camera follows Laurie from afar as she crossed the road.

She walks on the sidewalk and is about to cross the road when Tommy runs to her while shouting her name.

Getting closer, Tommy asks. "Coming over tonight?"

Laurie replies. "Same time, same place."

"Can we make Jack-o-lanterns?" He asks while walking backwards.

"Sure."

"Can we watch monster movies?"

"Sure."

"Are you being real to me? Can we make popcorn?"

Laurie places her hand on his head and messes his hair. "Sure, sure, sure."

"Cut, cut, cut!"

This surprises Emily and the child actor a little, but they complie.

Oliver walks up to the kid and kneels. "Kid, you need to act more excited. Like you're actually getting to do your favourite things. Get it?"

The child nodded in response.

Oliver gets up as a small grunt escapes from his lips and returns to the director's chair.

"Alright, we'll be re-taking this scene."

As everyone got quieter and got in their positions, Oliver starts the retake.

"And action!"

The rest of the days went away like this, filming and re-taking scenes that were not to Oliver's liking. The shooting was coming to an end however, as the last of the four weeks began.
