No. No. No. This wasn't supposed to happen.
Kayden looked around frantically as he watched the room flood with about ten of Xavier's men, all pointing guns at Caleb and his team—who had also drawn their weapons. The men wore masks just like those used in the auction, except for Xavier.
Everette trembled in Kayden's arms, little whimpers escaping his lips as his hands tightened around Kayden's neck.
"Well, who do we have here?" Kayden kept his mask on, hiding his face from Samuel.
"Taking my precious cargo," Xavier tsked. "Right under my own nose, in my own territory. Don’t think that’s very nice."
"You kidnapped him!" Caleb snapped, displaying unexpected bravery in front of the guns aimed at him.
Xavier laughed heartily, as if Caleb had just told a joke. "I found him. Now he's mine—well, he's for the highest bidder. I'm sure he'll fetch me a lot of money."
Everette sobbed softly in Kayden's embrace.
