Chapter Fifty-four

Levi's car came to a halt in front of the familiar house, the building appearing dull and quiet in the evening's embrace. He dragged in a deep breath, feeling the weight of the moment pressing down on him, and glanced at the time displayed on his phone: 8:00 PM. Turning his gaze back to the house, he noticed that the window was shut tight, but he could clearly see that the lights inside were switched off. So, it was either that no one was home or the resident had succumbed to sleep.

With a groan of frustration, Levi placed his head against the steering wheel, feeling a mix of determination and anxiety swirl within him. It didn’t matter—at least that’s what he kept telling himself—if Leon wasn’t at home or if he was asleep. If he knocked and Leon didn’t answer—which was certainly a possibility considering his demanding job as a doctor—then Levi would simply sit on the front porch until either Leon came home or decided to answer the door.
