The cold evening breeze caressed my beautiful skin and with slight shivers, my skin prickled into tiny bumps as I sat close to the slightly opened window at the back seat of a Chevrolet. It had been opened on my demand, and my eyes were fixed on the unending moving road on a highway.
Khloe sat beside me, working on god knows what with a system. Since I told her what happened between Liam and me, she has been silent. She probably didn't anticipate it either. Yet, I'm more concerned about what will happen to my job role than I am with Monica's response when she learns about it.
I really pray it doesn't affect it because if it did, I have no idea what my fate will be. According to the agreement I made with Khloe, I was their subject for a year, so I was required to work for them during that time, regardless of the task.
"Miss Abigail-" I turned to Khloe who finally looked away from her system, "I think it's time to close the windows. We don't want you falling sick."
I looked down at my body. She wasn't wrong. My arms were already filled with goosebumps from the cold, and my nipples, slightly visible from my V-neck gown were already hardened. If I continued this way, I would catch a cold especially cause I was wearing an exposed, mini-dress that barely covered my body.
I nodded and with a snap of her fingers, the windows were pulled up.
"Thank you."
"My pleasure, Miss Abigail."
I smiled.
Taking another look at her system, her eyes came back to mine, "Also, Miss Abigail, you don't have to worry about the contract with Mr. Anderson. We'll take care of it."
I frowned when I remembered my encounter with Liam. "I have a question, Miss Khloe."
She smiled, a reassuring one urging me to go ahead and I continued, "Will the contract with Mr. Anderson affect my job?"
"Not at all, Miss Abigail. As I said, we'll deal with it."
I was finally relieved. It's a good thing my job wasn't going to be affected. "Thanks, Miss Khloe."
"I'm just doing my job. That's by the way, you did a good job today and Mrs. Monica seemed impressed with the way you handled things." I smiled. "She decided to reward you."
Reward me?
Hearing this was strange for a variety of reasons. I was careless and almost blew my cover today cause I was too overwhelmed with my emotions. Seeing how she decided to reward me cause she was impressed, who am I to reject her kind gesture? This is far preferable to receiving a penalty in its place.
"That's so thoughtful of Miss Monica. Please send my appreciation to her."
"Of course. You'll be getting it pretty soon."
I nodded and turned away from her to the road. It seemed like we were approaching our destination cause we were no longer on the highway, and I was happy cause it felt like it took forever for us to get there.
All I wanted to do after the long day was relax in bed and sleep peacefully. The only way I could get my thoughts off that haughty, narcotic billionaire and his harsh comments was to engage in this.
We drove through a stunning estate, but considering all the bad luck I've had with beautiful things today, I opted not to admire it to avoid being dissatisfied with the outcome. My opinion of what is lovely has been severely damaged, at least for today, thanks to Liam.
I groaned inwardly.
Before eventually accessing the estate, we drove through a gate. It was just as stunning as I had imagined. The car halted as we approached the entrance of one of the many flats on the block.
I was in wonder as I gazed at the stunning structure. It was truly lovely. Surprisingly, the building and the lovely flowers planted in front gave me a sense of home and this sense of home brought with it a whiff of sadness.
"You'll be spending the night here, Miss Abigail. This is Miss Monica's reward."
A big house to spend the night all by myself? Why did this reward feel more like a punishment to me for making the decision I did?
I forced a smile as I turned to look at Khloe, "it's beautiful."
She smiled, "yes, the house is beautiful, but the reward isn't the house, Miss Abigail, It's the people inside the house."
"What people, Miss Khloe?"
A grin dotted her lips. "Why don't you go in and find out?"
I looked at her skeptically, before turning to the door.
The chauffeur who stood outside opened the door for me, and I stepped down from the car.
"Have a wonderful evening, Miss Abigail."
I turned and looked at her from the door the chauffeur still held open, "Likewise, Miss Khloe."
She smiled, and the man bowed before shutting it and heading back to the car. They drove off almost immediately.
As I walked to the front porch, my eyes darted backward continuously and only stopped when the car was no longer in sight. I was nervous and expectant as well.
Unable to control my burning curiosity, I lifted my hand to the doorbell and applied the right force. It made a ding sound.
After a few seconds, I heard footsteps approach the door and my heart oddly raced. It became even worse as I watched the handle of the door move to the right until it clicked open, and the person inside opened it wide.
I blinked in confusion and excitement when I saw the familiar face in front of me.
"Mum?"
"You sound surprised to see me."
I embraced her, smiling sheepishly like a child given candy. When she wanted to let go, I held her tighter.
"Are you okay, honey?" She released me from her embrace and stared at me with worry all over her face.
I chuckled. "I'm fine, mum."
If only she knew how happy I was. I never thought I was going to see her this soon.
I walked in and she closed the door.
"When did you guys move?"
As I walked in front of her, she spoke behind me, "Earlier today. A couple of men came shortly after you left, saying you asked to help us move. I tried calling you a couple of times, but it wasn't going through, so I just allowed them to do their jobs. You sent them, right?"
I chuckled nervously, "of course, don't know why I'm forgetful these days."
Eventually, they were sent by my organization.
She smiled. "Don't blame yourself. Things like this are bound to happen." She took the lead as we walked further inside the building. "Your father's been worried. You left this morning without a word. He even thought you were abducted or something. Do you know how many times I had to continuously say you are an adult before he kept calm?"
I chuckled once more, "I wonder how he would react when he sees me."
"Well, you're about to find out. He's in the living room."
