-Spiderman POV-
After some very vigorous testing by Me and Ned, we confirmed that my mind had not been tricked into believing the existence of Kamar Taj and the sorcerer supreme. "So wizards exist then," Ned said with wonder, I flicked his forehead as I told him "That just means there is a chance that we can face some magic bullshit and lose because we don't know shit about magic" Ned looks down seriously before he says "Just to inform you, I do know a little bit of magic" I blink in surprise before I warn him with a vein threatening to burst out of my head.
I tell him with as much calm as I can muster "If you ask me to pick a number between 1 and 10 then I swear to god I'll murder you" Ned gulps as he says "Never mind" and we continue walking in silence. We were just about to split up at the intersection when we saw Matt Murdock walking past us with foggy hot on his heels.
"You have to understand Matt, we can't risk any more criminals getting back on the street. There are 100 more ways we can take this case forward" Matt stopped walking as he questioned "And which of the 100 ways would allow us to get the mayor for good? All of those other ways will let him go scot free and you know I hate that more than anything"
I and Ned looked on as Foggy sighed and tried to reason with Matt "Look Matt, you are usually the guy who is calm and collected but you aren't being rational right now, you are being unreasonable" Matt pinches the nook of his nose as he says "I am sorry foggy, but I don't see another way" Foggy pushed Matt back and I rushed to help Matt stabilize because I know he would fall to keep up his blind act.
Foggy yelled out frustratedly "You don't see another way because you are taking this personal" Matt got back up and yelled out "I didn't make it personal, he did" Foggy grabbed Matt by the collar as he yelled into Matts's face "And he is doing that because he wants you to do something stupid" Matt let's go of his came and winds up for a punch as he says "I'LL SHOW YOU STUPID, YOU BASTARD" Foggy wound back his fist too as he yelled out "WHO ARE YOU CALLING A BASTARD YOU BASTARD"
But before either of them knocked each other out, Ned pulled Foggy away while I held back Matt to break up the fight. Foggy yelled out "WHO ARE YOU KIDS? GET OUT OF MY WAY" while Matt yelled out "LET ME GO PETER! I'LL LET THAT FUCKER KNOW WHAT A BLIND LAWYER CAN DO" Ned shouts in distress while cringing "Is this what we look like to the cafe owner?" I shout back uncertainly "Maybe" and after a short while of taunts thrown at each other while struggling to get out of our grip, both of them called down and sat across each other on the sidewalk.
Ned threw me the water bottle he had in his bag, I caught it and drank greedily before drenching myself in the cool water" Once my body has been cooled enough Matt said indignantly "You could have given me some, instead of draining it" I wipe my face with the sleeve of my shirt before I throw the bottle at his face. Matt leans back on his arms just in time for the bottle to miss him (Completely coincidental of course) and hit Foggy on his forehead making him lay flat on the floor and lose consciousness.
Matt grins and gives me a thumbs-up as he says "Good job kid" I look at Ned and tell him "This is the martial arts guy I told you about" I look back at Matt and tell him "And this is the guy in the chair I told you about. Oh! And be careful about where you use your powers, You're lucky it was just Ned" Matt tilts his head and says "I knew it was Ned" I stand up and wipe off the dirt on my pants as I ask him "How? You haven't met Ned before." He smiles as he says "He smells of your suit"
I looked at him confused about how that explained anything before it dawned on me and I asked Ned with a cold fury as he started to sweat buckets "Ned did you wear my suit again" Ned tried to defend himself but I wasn't having any of it as he tried to beg for mercy "Peter, it was just for an hour, so that I can click some pictures, nothing else" after a stern talking to I got back to Matt and asked him pointing towards Foggy "What's up with him anyway?"
Matt sighs as he tells me "I am thinking of letting go of most of the criminals in exchange for catching the big fish but Foggy is still under the notions of 'If you do the crime, you do the time'" I watch as his face scrunches up trying to fight against this moral quandary. I pried for more information "What if you don't do that?" Matt smiles wryly as he explains "Then most of the big fish will once again be out in the open" I frown once again as I wonder what the solution to this might be.
I looked up at Matt trying to wake up Foggy with a concerned look on his face and told him "Let go of the big fish, they will starve without any smaller fish to eat in the city" before I walked away with Ned.
I was wondering if my advice was correct or if I made a mistake but I knew for sure that this wasn't the time to argue as hundreds of people were waiting for their sentence.
-3 Hours Later-
It started to rain a while ago so I had to put a little effort in my swinging so that I could swim with one hand in front of me to stop the droplets from badgering my face with terminal velocity. I swung and swung with half my vision impaired by my hand and the rain.
I landed on a tree and watched on as a woman and her son stood in front of a grave with an umbrella on their heads and flowers in the child's hands. I continued to wait as they talked about something, I didn't know. I made my presence known by walking behind them when they were about to leave. The woman was surprised but quick to guard her son behind her as soon as she saw me.
I saw her relax a little once she realized that it was me and the child yelled "Ma! It's Spiderman" but his excitement was short-lived as she pushed him behind her again. I tried to reassure her "Fear not madam, I am just here to ask you a question?" Her head turns upwards before she asks incredulously "Here? In the rain?" I nod as I explain "The rain covers our voices"
She looked pointedly at her son as she asked me "Should I send him back to the car?" I didn't want him to hear what I was going to say, so I nodded making her lean down and whisper into the boy's ear. The kid ran away and I stood there in front of her hoping she was the one who started the conversation and thankfully she did "What do you want Spiderman?" I tried to ease her into the whole thing so I asked her "Mr. Fisk, he!..He was a good man wasn't he?"
She nodded and the way she nodded told me that she didn't know what he did and it was horrible for me to be the one to break the news to her "Your husband...I..I was the one that killed him" she looked at me with some tears in her eyes and I could see her lip quiver as she looked away from me at the gravestone of her husband.
I expected a lot from her, curses, hitting me, killing me but the quiet "Why?" from her was what truly broke me. I have to tell her why her husband deserved death. I looked down as I told her "He wasn't as forthcoming about what he does as you thought he was. He was the kingpin" She stills all of a sudden and looks up at me in horror.
She drops the umbrella beside her as she mumbles to herself "I...he..he always told me he was working for the city and I believed him...I..believed him. I was suspicious but I...I believed him" I approached the woman having a panic attack and held her as I tried to explain to her "He started his takeover with good intentions madam but somewhere along the way he became the kingpin"
She cried for a while longer as I held her and tried to make her understand why I had to do it. After a while she asked me after taking a deep breath "Why are you telling me this?" I looked away as I asked her "Would you let the world know who he was, knowing it would make people lose trust in the good of humans" She looked up at me and for the first time smiled at me "People will lose trust in Wilson Fisk..." I looked away as I understood that she wouldn't want Wilson's criminal history out in the open.
But she surprised me as she continued "...But they will find a new man to trust....You" I look up at her in surprise as she says "They will lose their trust in a good man, true but they will find another man they can trust. So, do what you will to protect this city" With her blessings I swung away to Matt's home to give him the video of the Mayor and the Kingpin. This will drag Wilson Fisk's name through the mud but the Mayor can be put behind bars too.
