Chapter 21: Layla

Jared shifts and rests his chin in his hand, two fingers covering his mouth. The intensity in his eyes burns my soul. I swallow all the emotions and clear my throat. I’m not ready to relive that night, but looking at the tension in Jared’s shoulders and how still he is, I know this is important to him.

Jared shifts closer to me, and I’m momentarily frozen solid before warmth rushes through my body and thaws the coldness.
