The Gardaí ask us about what we saw. Ashley and Layla go first, and by the time it’s my turn to answer questions, I’m more controlled. We’re told they may have future questions for us, but for now, we can leave.
"I could get a taxi," Ashley says from the back seat. I think it’s a great idea, but Layla doesn’t.
"Don’t be silly. We don’t mind." Layla glances at Ashley in the rearview mirror.
"How are you? I mean…" Ashley trails off.
"I’m fine. I don’t think anyone is walking away unaffected." Layla meets my gaze.
"Take the next left," Ashley says, her voice distant.
