Chapter 14

Vajra was having trouble parsing what she’d just said to him. It was so far beyond the norm that it Just didn’t make sense. Was it a result of the hypothermia and trauma? The cloak was all she had left of her home, and somehow it had triggered some kind of delusion? That had to be it, she sounded crazy, and she’d never been crazy before. “Ardala, I need you to slow down and think about what you’re saying.”

“What is there to think about?” She looked at him, horror, and curiosity at war in her eyes. “I offer you the truth of the matter. More of the truth than I have offered anyone thus far.”

“You sound-“He wasn’t going to tell her that she sounded crazy. “Like you had a really rough time out there. Maybe you need to talk to someone.”
