She said nothing, just looked at him with her big dark eyes. Her posture said she was uncertain, almost afraid and the bond was still sealed shut so he didn’t know how she was really feeling. “You seemed to have opinions about me outside before, what has changed?” She finally spoke after a few minutes where they just stared at each other.
“Not what I meant.” He fumbled for a different way to say it that she’d understand. “Courting maybe? A chance to get to really get to know each other?”
“No,” She turned from him but not before he saw hope and want crash through her eyes. “I will not be an iron ball to your heel.” She walked towards the kitchen, a frightening determination in her steps. “I will see you free of me. I will execute the blood call to my father and leave you.”
