“Wait, you were getting married? “He looked startled and then vaguely angry. “Who were you marrying? And they let you get thrown out anyway?” He shook his head as if he was trying to get rid of something. “I don’t want to mate with you Ardala.”

“Lies,” she hissed at him. “And yet somehow truth? That is confusing.”

He reached for her, pulling her against his body tightly. “I don’t want to mate with you, it shouldn’t be like that, not something you give, and I take.” He seemed to be groping around for a point and in the meantime, she shrugged off his arms and crushed that relentless seed of want yet again. It could not be allowed to exist within her because if she let it grow than she would reach beyond herself. “If we were going to make love, that’s what it would be. I don’t think either of us is ready to take that step though.”
