“Hi,’ he said as she tucked herself under his chin. “Are you doing ok?”


“I am doing better now, yes.” She pulled back to look at him. “You look weary, are you well?”


“I was with your father for a couple of hours.” He grinned down at her and flicked a questioning glance at the older woman. “I feel like my head’s been excavated.”


“Forgive me,” Ardala stepped back entirely. “This is Lady Dorwenna, matron of my ladies and our chaperone. The two men are my guards, Sir Ebon and Sir Timothy.”


“We need a chaperone?”  Vajra looked over at the other woman again and she gave him a cheeky little finger wave. “We didn’t have one last night.”


“I was there, you were both just too caught up to see me.” Lady Dorwenna sounded hugely amused. “Don’t you worry about me; you almost won’t know I’m here.”’


“Father has ordered it.” Ardala looked worried as she gazed up at him. “We are not to be alone together until we are engaged.”
